Coulthard linked to BBC commentary team
Coulthard has been linked to join Brundle as the new BBC commentary team. So glad they are getting rid of the current C*ck

Re: Coulthard linked to BBC commentary team
I wonder if the BBC will have to run the show 5 mins behind the live feed so that they can catch Coulthard swearing and "beep" him out
I think he'll make a good commentator

Re: Coulthard linked to BBC commentary team
I'm a little in two minds about whether he'll turn into a sort of James Hunt commentator - he's got some funny views, but you get the impression sometimes he's possibly going to develop some chips on his shoulders. If he can keep it funny, but the right side of boringly personal, he'll do well.
Looking at the list of other commentators, there's some real no-names in there however and the chat is that the Beeb will just have the commentary team in a booth in the UK, watching feeds? Budget is a fraction of what ITV are spending... Hopefully, it's not a backwards step.
Slightly nervous TBH...

Me too. Does anyone actually like James Allan? Coulthard and Brundle would be great. That + no adverts + slicks + less downforce should = a great seasonjamie wrote: So glad they are getting rid of the current C*ck

Re: Coulthard linked to BBC commentary team
Agreed, although Coulthard & Brundle will be pundits, with an anchor commentator (who supposedly does A1 GP?) He's an unknown to me, but must be better than the reedy-voiced c*ck...

However, what confuses me is Coulthard has been linked (even confirmed IIRC?) to a Red Bull consultancy role - quite how that could sit with impartial TV commentary/punditry I dunno. Not that we have impartial at the moment anyway.... (swears Steve Rider moonlights for Hamilton's PR Company

I'm pretty sure I remember Grand Prix sometimes had Murray sat in a studio cupboard in London commentating. I'm nervous too... fear of the unknown etc. If we get live practice on BBCi/red button (and perhaps a choice of commentary BBC TV/5 live), and surely always plenty of post-match interviews etc * (like with MotoGP coverage now) than that'd be good

* watched this year's Belgian GP in a cocktail bar in Austria

....They had the entire english language press conference with someone translating, followed by interviews with all the drivers in the press pool afterward - the bit ITV use snippets of in their highlights show (impressive how many could conduct an interview in german). They also had exclusive access to Nico Rosberg (maybe all 5 German drivers - can't remember) afterward for an in-depth interview/analysis of how it was for him/them.
It was clear they didn't have the Coronation Strasse Omnibus to schedule

Re: Coulthard linked to BBC commentary team
Yeah - it's far from impartial. Blundell and Brundle run 2MB Management - DC's management company. Wonder how he got the TV gig then
Still, you raise a good point about the Beeb's use of the red button - they really have embraced that technology, so hopefully it gets used to the full with F1.

Re: Coulthard linked to BBC commentary team
As a Beeb insider, am pretty sure that the BBC will require a finished package from the production company (North One??) and this, realistically, can only be done on location. There's not much scope to cut costs as race action is an international feed and the rights to this are where the money goes. Any savings will be in the volume of interviews and features. Personally, I think ITV's 60minutes is OTT - how often do you switch on 5 minutes before the start?Shug wrote: Looking at the list of other commentators, there's some real no-names in there however and the chat is that the Beeb will just have the commentary team in a booth in the UK, watching feeds? Re: Coulthard linked to BBC commentary team
I like the build up just record it and watch on a delay so I can forward through the ads
Re: Coulthard linked to BBC commentary team
I wouldn't mind the long build up as long as it was being doing better than ITV do it - they spend most of the time kissing Lewis Hamilton's and Ferrari's a**es.
No-one else seems to get a mention - you wouldn't think that BMW or any other team existed, let alone had a chance (albeit an outside one) of winning both championships

Re: Coulthard linked to BBC commentary team
From what I have read, Coulthard isn't going to be involved in the commentary.
He's going to be the 'Mark Blundell' figure.
Jonathan Legard will be the commentator and Martin Brundle summariser/co-commentator.

Can we have a sweep-stake on how many times he says 'Red Bull' on air then?Rory wrote:From what I have read, Coulthard isn't going to be involved in the commentary.

Also concerned about DC. Although my opinion of him changed after reading his book, I'm reminded of the really (I mean really, really) rubbish publicity stunt 60min programme him and Mika did at the turn of the century. All he did was talk about himself, how he went faster through this corner, he outbraked him etc.
Can't wait to get rid of the c*ck. I got seriously chastised on sunday for shouting, "f*ck off you c*ck!" at the telly after his "....boom!" comment on the slow-mo replay of Kimi's crash

Re: Coulthard linked to BBC commentary team
If the BBC are going to do it from a studio in UK, couldn't they do it from Murray's front room? I'd love to have Murray back, Grand Prix are not the same without himjasonliddell wrote:Shug wrote: I'm pretty sure I remember Grand Prix sometimes had Murray sat in a studio cupboard in London commentating.
