Scottish Elises

I am a bit dissillusioned with my new elise. Its not an animal like my old elise. Its a great car, but its just too easy to drive, unlike my old shed.

So, i am thinking about a change.

I have one in mind. bmw m3, 2001, so means high tax, 445 quid a year. ALso, it only does 22mpg on a normal run. obviously servicing and maintenance will be more unless Ali is good with M3's

But, its about 4K cheaper than the average price on pistonheads, so is a total bargain.

If its a good buy, buy it and run it for a few months and sell it at no / minimal loss.

Im a big fan of the E46 M3. Whats the spec though? If its PY with no nav / 18s and is manual then theres the reason its cheap. If its Grey/black/Silver estoril and has one or all of the "most wanted" options (nav/19s/SMG) then why not. Will be much nicer in Winter than an elise.

I had one of the first of the E46 M3's in 2001, and it was a brilliant car, great to drive , and well put together,. Great fun round KH with the traction control off!! I liked it so much that I bought it back last year with 40,000 miles on the clock.

They are now great value for money. Watch colours though, Phoenix Yellow is not good value, and it will only clash with your hair!!

With someone on the disco next week, hoping it goes, and then it will be time to choose again, and a post 2002 M3 is on the list as good examples can now be had for <25k.

As for the constant abuse of being an M3 driving knob, i could handle it i think! Fuel economy would be similar to the Disco, as would road tax, so not much in it - except for a much much better driving experience!

Don't like the S2 because it's not as much fun as an S1 so buy an M3 instead?

Buy another S1 shed if that's what you miss.

Had a pax in the csl and it didnt exactly look challenging to drive. Big and heavy.....

more details. Its a 2001 E46 M3. 70,000 miles. full bmw service history. Bodywork (silver) a bit tatty, but mechanically sound. ALso, black leather, so nothing hideous inside. No sat nav, and just the pikey 18" wheels Needs new discs and pads on the front.

Its only 8K though, so seems like alot of car for the money.

I'd buy it for 8k just to re-sell it for 14/15k!!!

New front brakes are about £800, and check what service is due next- Inspections 1's and 2's are very pricey (can be over a grand for an inspection 2 at a dealer!).

Also no one wants them without Nav or 19's so it may be harder to sell...... but at that price it's an absolute steal!

A mate just last month bought a mint full option 05 car for 19, so a good bit less than 25.

At 8k for a straight car you would be silly not to buy it. Still probably more than he would get offered for it as a straight trade sale mind you at the moment.

Swap the 135r for Jon's 7 and come join Fd & myself on the hills next year

Great car, a bit fat and the std brakes are utterly useless!

I will advertising the shed for 12k in case you want it back, credit crunch is biting hard
