iphone 3G

Post by Victor Meldrew » Tue Aug 26, 2008 9:56 pm

Ok... I think I will be getting an Iphone 3G. Why...? Because Lesley wants one.... and we both have to be on the same network.. and it would be much easier if we both had the same charger.. and the same car mount.. etc.. etc..

So.. the question is.. are there anyone out there on SE who are using their phone to surf the forum. Is it any good? It must be better than this bloody blackberry for web browsing.

The one thing that bugs the nuts out of me is having to log on every time I open up the browser, it wont save the login details.. if the iphone 3G did this I would be a willing convert rather than a driven techno slave.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

Iphone 3G works perfectly for browsing the forum.

Internet explorer on HTC phones doesn't like the forum at all.

I have one of the new iphone 3g's and it is great on the forum etc. Still a bit limited on the 3g coverage in Scotland tho, but it will only get better.

Camera is crap, but apart from that it is a pretty cool device!

Similar issues for me... wondering about an iphone 3G cradle to fit the audi factory fit system, they have a cradle for the old iphone but I dont know it it will be compatible with the 3G version?

Anyone know how backwards compatible these things are?

I've had both iPhone and iPhone 3G, both are great for browsing - best of any mobile device I've used.
Have ditched a Nokia E61 and use iPhone 3G as my only phone now. Exchange integration & push email over MobileMe work well (some issues at launch, better now).

As far as integration is concerned, the iPhone & iPhone 3G do not like connecting to the Standard fit Alpine's in 2008 Elise/Exige.
iPod Classics and earlier seem to connect fine. I have been using a Jawbone bluetooth headset recently - quite impressed.

In the 2005 Audi A4 the iPhone would connect over Bluetooth intermittently. iPhone control over a cable did not work. Not had the opportunity to test in later cars.

I'll probably be at SIDC on Saturday if anyone wants to play with an iPhone.

I have a touch diamond now, but was thoroughly impressed with a friend's new iPhone yesterday, that said, it was just out of the box and there was no data signal (we were bordering the Ayrshire wilds) so I couldn't get online with it.

My vote goes to the HTC Touch Diamond :thumbsup and I'm usually a huge Apple fan and complete slave to the brand of Apple. But the HTC is just a far better device in general IMO.

I wanted to get a HTC, but Orange wouldn't budge on their 250Mb limit, so jumped across to O2 for their unlimited data.

This meant getting an iPhone...very reluctant at first, but now I love it. Great phone.
Still has its "issues", hate having to do everything "Apple's Way" however, getting used to it.

Biggest bugbear with my iPhone 3G, is the fact it will connect telephone calls via bluetooth, but it won't stream music via bluetooth (yet??) no support for A2DP or something.

Browsing forum is great, although have to zoom in quit close to be able to hit the buttons.
Apple has this annoying feature of not closing down the applications completely, so you do eventually run out of memory and it slows down to a crawl, resolved by switching the phone off and back on again.

It does seem to cache my forum password.

Oh, and iTunes is far, far too addictive....
Spent ages "previewing" various tracks...in fact it was about 3am before I realised that I wasn't in the 80's anymore.

:thumbsup

Blackberry Bold stores the log in details....

A bit of a pain to keep zooming the pages to read the text.........ot is that just my eyesight!!

O2 will launch the Bold later than others as it has not passed our quality assurance test .......yet
