I am thinking about meeting a friend (she will be flying up from Houston) there for 4-5 nights. November/December

Had a quick look on Lastminute and it looks like there are a good few deals going about. Most of them approx £600-800, I am sure there are loads of good hotels, just wondered if it was worth paying the extra ££ to stay in the Bellagio £1100.

Only things we want to do apart from the gambling, eating, drinking or even going to a show is go to see the grand canyon (might go for the heli trip). Anyone recommend anything else to do?

Cheers

Sounds expensive........
There are Laydees in Crieff who will "put out" for a bacardi breezer and a fish supper!

We did the Hoover Dam as we didn't want to spend the whole day at the grand canyon, worth a trip. also go for a breakfast buffet, you won't need to eat again all week... Pancakes, ice cream and bacon for brakfast??

I dunno how old you are but both me and her got ID'd buying beer despite being the wrong side of 25, we got booted from one casino for lack of ID... The Irish bar in NewYork actually does a good pint of guiness too...

Slots are for mugs, roulette is the way forward, craps is best allegedly but only if you can work it out... :thumbsup

The Bellagio is rather expensive (by Vegas standards) but I hear it's bloody nice. I recently stayed in the Venetian - easily the most impressive hotel I've ever been in - 3 big LCD TVs in the room and one on the bathroom! $200 a night. If you want to save money though none of the hotels along the strip will dissapoint.

And don't buy beer just sit at a roulette table and put a few dollars of chips down every so often - you'll get your drinks for free that way.

Around the area - there is also the Hoover Dam which is a pretty impressive sight.

Oh - and there are quite a few exotic car rental places along the strip :thumbsup

Don't go the the Imperial Palace, it's sh!t.
Badly in need of renovation, probably why it was so cheap! Next time we will be looking at one of the big casinos as above :thumbsup

I am sure its not going to be a cheap trip (is there such a thing), her hubby is paying for her flight.

She is a very good friend and we are more like brother and sister, before you start.

One used to be able to "do Vegas" on quite a cheap budget, if avoiding Fri and Sat nights. Difference in our hotel costs at Circus Circus from Sat to Sun was amazing! Maybe this has changed. And I wouldn't suggest Circus Circus as your chosen hotel, it was basic, we needed somewhere on spec and on a budget, and it saw us right!

Here's some inspiration perhaps:

Would love to go back when the kids are old enough to appreciate the sights and sounds.

I just got back from Vegas a couple of weeks ago. We stayed in the Venetians Palazzo, which is an all suite hotel. The rooms were MASSIVE and would totally recommend it. It's beside the Wynn and opposite Treasure Island. I have a bunch of photos and will try and get some up in the gallery if anyone is interested. Will post some of the room if you are interested.

Would totally recommend the Grand Canyon tours. We wanted to fly (plane) and if you go to stalls there you'll get quoted along the lines of $280 pp. But if you go online (using hotel wireless?) you'll be able to get online exclusive deals, we paid around $220 per person. Its a long day but nothing like you have ever seen.

A few years since I have been and must go back soon. We stayed in the Luxor which is probably dated now. Very clean though with big rooms and plenty of good food places, (not too pricey).

We did the helicopter tour over the hoocer damn and the grand canyon and would highly recommend it, even better if you get a pilot who clearly still thinks he's in the Air Force/Army. Best fun of the whole trip by far. :thumbsup

IMHO Bellagio is gorgeous but the Mirage is much better - and slightly cheaper :thumbsup
