BMW SMG gearbox - NLC

Does anyone know anything about the BMW SMG gearbox?
It's paddle shift/automatic and sequential (?).
I guess they would be pretty expensive to fix if they went wrong.

SMG on the lesser models is not to be confused with the M3 version.
M3 SMG get's rave reviews...
I guess Shoomer's your man, M3 Conv was SMG?
