It's changed again since then. The infield is now all concrete up to the kerbs.
You still wouldn't want to hit them hard.
Couple of bad bike accidents there when I was over in September.

The first link, what a selection of utterly guff machinery, how did they even go fast enough in a karmann ghia to crash anyway? Rolling that beetle convertable would have been scary though.

Certainly puts you off rear-engined (as opposed to mid-engined

)cars.
