Thought car was steaming for a split second this morning. Idiot
Drove car to work today on what was the first hard frost of the season where I live. Took a good 6 or 7 mins for the car to reach 70 degrees C and the heater had been on the whole time pointing at the windscreen.
All of a sudden the car filled with vapour (think that is the term, same as when you see your breathe on a cold day). Not just a little but masses. Open the window and turned fan off and after about 10 seconds was clear.
Must have just been the right temp between air/heater/windscreen. Has this happened to anyone else?

Could be a little leak in the heater matrix. Mine does this - gives me a short sauna when it heats up and is then fine. Loses negligible water, but enough to do that - take it you got the sweet niff of coolant when it happened?

Not sure. There was a slight smell of dampness. Not 100% sure of the smell of coolant, I'll go and sniff some solvents this evening to check.
I'll check car over for this.

actually I believe it is something to do with cold air on the hot water in the radiator which is positioned in the bonnet

The rad won't be hot until the thermostat opens...
Coolant stinks, you'd know the smell.
I get a better show than that the heat wrapped exhaust soaks up the rain then when you start the car you get a pillar of steam for about 5 mins. Put the heater on and the windscreen mists up instantly too. Can see infront or behind...
