I'm looking for a place to repair/service my watch and I'm not having much luck finding anything (they all seem to be down South). It's an automatic (Chronometer) badly in need of a service and in fact has stopped dead today (can't get it started again).

I don't want to take it to a regular 'jewellers' as they will only charge me a set fee to send it back to TAG for them to investigate... before then giving me a price (besides, I've lost all the documentation for it so no idea if TAG would accept it back anyway).

Does anyone know of anyone in Edin-Glas area with a good reputation and skills to do the job... and not perform rectal surgery when they hit me with the bill?

Cheers in advance...

Don't think there are any jewellers up her that can guarantee repair/seal. I sent my TAG back to distributor below and got it back in 7 days with no charge for a battery replacement!

Lvmh Watch & Jewellery (U K) Ltd.
Address: Duval House
16 - 18 Harcourt Street
Worsley
Manchester

mmm cheers Clarkie.. that's the official UK Tag Heuer Customer Services address/number (Lvmh are the parent company I think). Batteries I believe have a guaranteed life, so if it didn't make the lifespan they would replace under warranty for free I think (they did something similar with an F1 I had about 15yrs ago).

This one though is a certified chronometer... so no battery. I think my trouble is a bit more expensive... gulp... Was hoping to find someone local that could open it up, investigate & give a price.

I've found a place in Sussex that is authorised by Tag, but is independant... the guy gives free estimates so I've emailed him. The thing is, as soon as you mention 'chronometer', you can add 30-50% to the repair price. Thank fcuk it isn't a chronograph as well otherwise I'd be as well tossing it...

Gorrie, there is a place in Edinburgh you could try....I think it's somewhere in Broughton Street but I'll check with my missus for you tomorrow and get the name of the place if you are interested.

He put a new battery in her Tag and done an A1 (and inexpensive) job but more significantly for you, the guy is a bona fide watchmaker and I know he can carry out Rolex repairs/servicing etc. He is well established, been there for years and has a very good reputation by all accounts.

Me too please - Can you let me know too.?
My Tag Kirium needs a new crown.
The jewlers in George Street send it back to Tag & say it will take 6 weeks & £180 ! (Basically this is a service)

Jewellers in East Kilbride do TAG batteries and re-seal but not full service.

I sent my TAG back to the manufacturer as a couple of the links on the strap are loose and I was concerned they would break - they said it couldn't be repaired but they quoted for a new strap.......................

.......... FOUR HUNDRED AND EIGHTY POUNDS !!! For a watch strap!!!

Yep... Tag have a bit of a monopoly of after care. I don't mind using a good watchmaker instead (in fact, often they will be better as it's their own business). It's just trying to find one (seems a dieing trade).

@ a4drk... the guy I found in sussex does the crown as part of the service and he is £80 I think....

EDITED: Just got a quote from Cheal... £120 for fix/service/pressure test. Think I'll take that.

Yeah,
I got a quote off Cheal too. Think it was £110 inc a new crown.

Seems to be the best deal so far.

Here are the details of the place in Edinburgh :

Tomian Jewellers
10 Forth Street
Edinburgh
EH1 3LD
0131-556 4785

If anyone has any success please let me know as I may need to use their services shortly.

Judging by some of the prices being thrown about here, maybe MMC should consider going into watch servicing as well
