Help - Dead Lotus *IT LIVES*

Post by MRpunchinella » Wed Nov 07, 2007 9:17 am

returning from a clients home last night - car died. :( (S1)

car turning over - all electrics ok - no sounds as if fuel pump running or charging (its always made a whine) - tank half full :?

had just took the car out for a wee run, no tools in boot. called RAC, hour and half later arrived, checked the car over. he confirmed that no fuel was arriving at the engine, everything else seemed fine.

Dead pump?

Should i just approach a general parts dealer and purchase for the K series, am i correct in assuming its a standard rover part?

where can i locate the pump and is it an easy fix/replacement for a saturday?

last but not least - any idea of cost?

thanks for any help.

lowloader arrived an hour and a bit after that, finally got home about 230am.....bleary at desk

Are you saying the pump is priming or not?

Hve you checked you are getting a spark?

Check fuse and relay first.

There was an extensive thread earlier this year iirc.

thanks for the responses;

RAC checked the fuse box - all seemed well. Checked relays under front lid - same.

is there something elsewhere i should have checked at the time?

sparking strong and healthy at the cap

There is no sound - suggesting that the pump is not priming.

will check these threads. thanks

thanks TUT for pm - have replied :thumbsup

Sounds like its the fuel pump fuse which is in the boot (on its own). Standard ones are red iirc and too weak to cope with the current. Try replacing with a 15W fuse and that should work! cheers :thumbsup

I take it you have checked the inertia switch?

Yeah - the inertia switch. You need to press it twice :D

no

i will have a look, i trawled the forum and collected the threads re this problem :thumbsup

am i correct in saying that the engine would be turning but not firing and all electrics ok inc lights if the inertia switch had been bumped?

or would i expect - nada on everything?

christ - this is murder with the car is now at a family lock up 14 miles away and ive got 3 nights at work till 9 again so im too pushed to even get there during normal hours.

thanks again everyone :D

Inertia switch just kills the pump the other possibility is the MFRU, multi function relay unit, bit black lump near the ECU in the boot. They die sometimes.

Ali will work it out.
