It's not surprising though, if they invited Ultima to play then all the other cars would look slow and it would be very hard to get the other hyper car manufacturers to come and play again.
Slightly different topic but I just got the latest EVo. Am I the only one getting a bit sick of eh advertising heavy, aren't hypercars and supercars great format?
Thrill of driving it is not. All brand new, and most of the reviews are about 100k plus exotica which is more cars for schoolboys to drool over than folk to buy. What is the point in running a Micra Works special as a long termer except to let them play with it?
Are we learnign about running costs? Depreciation? How it is to drive could have been covered in one review.
And how many more reviews do I need to read about one off specials or
"Lambo-rarri-orsche will only be making 8 of these special editions which are almost entirely the same as the one we reviewed last month except for this piece of carbon which is now slightly smaller. Read over 14 pages what a lovely day out we had in it."

No...
Obviously it's good to read about and drool over those cars also mind you... There will no doubt be a new wave of review types along soon when they get an Evo X or Scooby 1-series on their fleet.

I seem to recall watching a re-run of TG not long ago where they timed various lightweight cars (R400, Elise 190, Atom, a couple of others...) and the R400 did it in 1:15 & the Atom down in the 1:12s IIRC
Funny how there's no mention of that

"
the fully verified lap time data shows that in a head to head race with the £450,000 Ferrari Enzo the Ultima GTR would lap it every 12 laps!"
I guess that would be pretty fast then eh!!

Althought loopking at their website I dob't see anywhere to buy anything other than a kit car which TG specifically exclude...

Atom's not a kit, and the R400 can be ordered factory built (like mine)

Which begs the question of why Top Gear have not had it on the program, and driven around the track by the Stig.
This is not 10ths that is being quoted, but 5 secs, so it really seems a no brainer.

Any time the stig got to drive it, it broke down before completing a lap ...
Who cares - ultimas may be fast but never actually seem to appear at track days, and when they do, they aren't fast for some reason and are usually broken by lunch. I am sure there are some fast and reliable ones out there, but I'll stick to the elise - it's not the best track car, it's not the best road car, but it's quite possibly the best track&road car at anything like it's price tag.
Cheers,
Robin

Ooo, maybe
I bought it periodically over the years and now it's generally the only car mag I do buy. So much so, I just subscribed. Thanks to postal shenanigans it just arrived yesterday. Abarth Punto review (well preview). Hardly a hypercar. And have read plenty about Clios, Golfs, Integras, etc, over the years.
I accept the hypercar stuff sometimes takes over, but it adds a dreamy perspective and the articles are generally well written and the photography excellent.
I suppose if you don't like it as much now, you can a) write to them (plenty have on this topic I think!) or b) buy CAR or MaxPower instead

I just cancelled my CAR subs cos it's trying to be too "GQ" IYSWIM which got tiresome tbh
They now are trying to get me to resubscribe, calling me etc, they're at me like fecking flies round shyte (maybe more than just symbolic

)
I'm gonna stick with Autocar for just now, right balance of sexy stuff & consumer-ish tosh á la What Car

prob with autocar is their desire to review sh*t cars and 4x4's.
Evo's still the best mag purchase i make on a monthly basis - even if they do have sligtly off months.
As for the Ultima, I've been on track with one a few times at Knockhill, sounds bloody marvellous and explodes up the straights when it gets gunned, but does seema HUGE amount of hassle, and you always end up passing the chap at some stage due to cool down/issues.....
Lovely to see though and hear
