Driving a brand new S1

Up this morning, with a spring in my step.....Ali has left me his S1 and taken the RLC for its MOT.

Todays change over day, so despite having the keys to Ali's car for the last 10 days, i've not driven it once.

I never drove a new S1 before, and although i have driven a fair few over the last few years, I never drove a new one!

Well ali's car is pretty much brand new, spotless and with only 5k miles. Its quiet, to the point that i didn't think it had started, but then slot reverse and out of the garage i go in to the morning sun!

The gear change is awesome, compared to the looser nature of the RLC, and it feels very well screwed together, and new car-ish. Pedal box is spot on, no give and seering feel is very precise. Loaded with feedback after yesterdays trip to Newcastle in the Merc!!!!

Head for the bypass, foot down a bit. Even the standard car has a good turn more pace than the normal muppet out on the roads. A few Kermits and Ms Piggies are despatched on route for the slip road up hill :)

Round the bypass, not the most exciting of rush hour routes, its sits there in the sun, comfortably charging along, civilised. Heal and toeing takes a bit more work, such is the response of the pedals - way more delicate than the rlc's. Its so nice to be driving something special again :)

I was actually driving with more care than usual as Ali's car feels so new, its really should be in a museum or collection and i don't want to so much a chip it!

A few corners from the A1 to the office, allow me to scarper at a pace the e-class would fall off the road at :) . I've been out of one of these for too long! Its a remarkable wee car as standard, and with all the mods and upgrades we se'ers go through its easy to forget what an accomplished little car this is straight out of the box, for the road certainly.....

Thank goodness the RLC passed its MOT and is ready for a thrashing on Friday - Lotus withdrawal symptoms for this first time this year..........its good to be back :D

Rough love will be back on the cards tonight
