freelander or other 4x4 towing vehicle

anyone have experience with freelanders - or ?

need a cheap (around £5-6k) to get through winter (at least) and to tow a horse box now and again.

I like freelanders but do not get a 1.8k series they suffer from HGF more than the elise! go for a diesel.

Or, if you can find one at that money, a Navara.

Jap is the way forward.

We had a V6 (yes, it was that thirsty) Freelander. Not just overly enamoured with it. It had to heads and therefore 2 gaskets. Yes they failed. Thankfully, within warranty.

GF just moved her horse to the outskirts of auldhouse where the roads are 'interesting' at the moment, never mind when the snow comes!

I got hit by a Merc C-Class yesterday on that road Nearly took my fecking arm off!

Freelanders have a terrible reputation for reliability especially the early ones as the back wheels go at a different speed to the front ones

Jap is probably best of reliability but go have a look in the classified if you want a toy/towcar

although a friend of mine got one as a company car and he had a new transfer box and diff all within 6 months and it still wasn't right Nissan eventually took it back!

I can second that went the back road when the A726 was closed in July and discovered that anything less then a 4x4 is risking damage, roads are truly a disgrace. Cost me new alloy, tyre and geo check.

I've seen than about £7,500 but that was a while back.

We're on our second one - 1st one was unbreakable - only thing that went wrong was a doese of very dirty (ie flakes of metal/rust) diesel which needed the fuel filter etc changed.

Second one, new shape, has, touch wood, been fine, a broken windscreen apart.

Ours are reguarly in 4wd and in low range occasionally so tranfer case is well used
