Someone tried to break into the house this morning *UPDATE*
Just had a call from my girlfriend- she awoke this morning to hear shouting from outside the house (I wasn't in) and saw the neighbour chasing a guy down the street with a baseball bat!
Apparantly the scumbag had been in the back garden trying his luck at the patio doors when the neighbour saw him and gave chase. What's worrying is that it was 7ish this morning and her car was on the drive... even more worrying is it was just her and our daughter alone in the house.
It happend in an area of Edinburgh which is supposed to be nice, on a decent street. It's really given me the shakes.
Thinking of getting a baseball bat for under the bed now.

Nice area's are better pickings, Junkies don't have anything worth stealing.
Lived in a place called Hurlford for years (rough place, but friendly) and never had any trouble moved to a nice place in Kilmarnock and got Burgled the b*stards stole a melon (not kidding either)
So get yourself a baseball bat, ball and glove (easier to explain your reasons for having it to the police
) and some sort of alarm also look ainto how he got round your back door.

better off with low voltage like an electric fence made a gate for a bloke who had this after someone stole his kids quads, he also wanted to put mains electric through it.Dominic wrote:

Where abouts in Edinburgh?
I came back from Holiday a few weeks ago and had not note through my door from the police saying there had been an attempted break in at the house next door - scumbags
We were lucky they didnt go for our house as they could have had a field day
I though I lived in a nice area too!

Sorry to hear of that menrood... even although they were disturbed and nothing was taken/damaged it still leaves that lingering doubt in your mind which is the horrible thing. Baseball bat is a good feelgood bet, and as Dominic suggested maybe an alarm with obvious external clues. Hope your OH isn't too freaked out.
[OT rant to give you a laugh..]
I remember returning from a weekend away to find a window on our first floor flat wide open in the back bedroom, and the blinds etc knocked down on the front room which looked out onto a main street. Muddy foot prints everwhere etc but nothing missing. No forced entry on the door which was still locked. Very wierd and was really unsettled for a long time. Changed the locks and slept with a 9 iron by the bed for weeks. Police were particularly unhelpful and clueless, which is particularly galling when you consider what we learnt a few months later...
One night our smoke alarm started going off, upstairs had a water leak and it was dripping through into the alarm! I confronted him about it the next morning. "Oh yeah, sh*t, sorry we'll get it sorted. It's happened before, but you weren't in that night. First we knew was when we saw the fire brigade outside breaking into your place as your smoke alarm was going off. It was like something out of a movie." Ok, so thanks for telling us that mate. And thank you to the firebrigade for leaving a notice, and thanks to the police for not having a bloody clue and for all the sleepless nights thereafter

Sorry to hear this
get a fecking noisy dog - Harvey our Springer Spaniel has a special deep "FCUK ORF!" bark reserved for strangers (& the postie) which is a comfort
What folk don't know is that he'd probably cause "death by licking"

Live in a very quiet cul-de-sac in a real nice area. I had to get ADT in to install door contacts, window contacts and various internal sensors after my neighbour was broken into, had his car keys stolen, and his 3 cars taken!!!
I also have 3 web enabled wireless IP cameras for when I go on holiday etc. As soon as movement is detected, 2 emails a second are fired off with images attached
Give ADT a ring, as soon as you have their box on your wall, the thieves will target the next house.
Gary.
