If i remember correctly 1 switches alarm on/off and 1 switches the interior zone off (if you leave the misses in it) it's 2 flashes on 1 flash off.

I await a correction :P

but in my defence it's been a while

Cobra 8185 is the standard factory fitted immobiliser, and 8186 is an optional specd. upgraded alarm system.

Big button arms and unarms alarm/immobiliser (two flashes - armed, one flash - safe)

The little button has a dual function - press and hold when armed to sound a panic alarm, i.e. if someone's trying to stick something big up your bum, and you don't want them to.

It also turns off "cockpit sensing intrusion" if you press it once after arming the alarm, i.e. if you're leaving your roof off and you don't want the alarm going off whenever a cat jumps into the car.

Mine seems to be 8185 and a half, i.e. Lotus have it recorded as 8185, but my doors and access panels are alarmed. However, I don't have cockpit sensing (so don't need the little button.)

If its the same as mine...

Big button arms and disarms as above.

Little button does the panic and sensor thing.

To turn the sensor off, press the big button to arm the alarm.
I seem to have to wait until the lights have flashed then press the small button
You'll hear a *beep* that means you can leave the roof off and the alarm won't go off constantly.

I read the manual for mine ;)

Do these classify as CAT 1/2? I dodnt bother to tell my insurance about it, other than 'manufacturers standard fit'
'16 MINI Cooper S - Family fun hatch
'98 Lotus Elise - Fun day car
'04 Maserati Coupe GT - Manual, v8, Italian...
'18 Mazda Mx5 - The wife's, so naturally my daily

Yep, has to have the upgraded 8186 to get Cat1 - the car is listed in the insurers' database as only being cat 2 from factory.
So if anyone insists on cat 1 as part of the policy, they may ask for proof that it's been upgraded.
