"Skid testing : this vehicle leaves water trail"

Post by jj » Wed Sep 26, 2007 2:56 pm

Was driving back from Edinburgh today and noticed the inside lane was wet, then after about a mile passed a truck that looked like a street sweeper lorry with sign saying "skid testing".

Maybe a stupid question but wtf does one of these do? It was travelling at about 50. Never seen one before.

It will probably have some wee wheels in there somewhere that's measuring the skid resistance of the existing surface.

I'm guessing something similar to this

or
http://www.schniering.com/Englisch/index_eng.php

measuring coeficents (speeling?) of friction of the road regards road safety and maintenance blah blah yawn

'Skid testing' = this tanker has a leak, we can't be bothered fixing, so have this sign instead.

Reminds me of an old (bad) joke;

Blonde following a truck, stops beside him at traffic lights, shouts out; "you're loosing your load". The trucker ignores her, and continues. At the next set of lights, she does the same. Again, the trucker ingores her and continues. At the third set of lights, she calls out to the trucker again, who replies to her... "I'm gritting the roads" :oops:
