Holiday weekend

Post by MRpunchinella » Tue Sep 25, 2007 9:22 am

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Was lucky enough to get away and managed :lol: to actually drive the car! Headed to Centre Parks near Penrith which brought back great memories of weekly drives across the Brough on the A66 :twisted: . Park was great fun and met up with friends and their family. Water centre was a hoot and smiles all round.

This is really a recommendation for anyone who is travelling there and perhaps wants to stay out of the park. We stayed at the Roundthorn Country House Hotel, Very nice indeed. Lovely surrounding area with great views, food really good and Cumbrian breakfast a cracker! (As was waitress – but enough said 8) ). Room was in the top part of the building, a modern conversion with Velux ceiling windows and cracking modern bathroom, power shower etc.

Would advise anyone travelling there at night to watch the approach road as you enter the estate. Killer speed bumps. Hit one at the end of the road at speed and thought I had taken the front splitter off, but no obvious damage on inspection so just a word to the wise.

Got up next day with the intention of heading to Ullswater for the steamer. In car, turn key – nada – dead. sh*t. Quick check down in the front revealed that the positive lead had came loose on the terminal, probably as a result of the collision with the speed bump. 20 sec later – offski.

Went to Rheged Centre near Ullswater Steamers; to see the British Mountaineering Exhibition there. Excellent and if you are interested in such things I would recommend it. First class exhibits and very interesting history of the attempts on Everest.

There is an excellent café/ shop there just as you go in. Organic produce and superb food. The ‘Curiosity Cola’ is recommended.

Off to Ullswater Steamers. Made good progress on the short twisty roads and enjoyed paying £6 :shock: to park the car for the trip. The muck in the car park was the consistency of cement dust with brown water; lovely.

Trekked along to the Steamer and went into the log cabin to purchase tickets. Conversation went a bit like;

Me – “Hi, I take it that this is where the Steamer departsâ€

Thats a shame the Ullswater steamers are quite pleasant to sail on - sounds like you had agood time though 8)
