Well i have now moved in with helen the other half and she has a big sod off log burning stove so.

Does anyone know a good way of getting firewood. I would prefer the cheapest possible solution. Also pick your own would be good as i have the landy a big feck off trailer and a chainsaw

Might also be a good excuse to get that big winch i have been promising myself

As a kid we used to have to go and collect fire wood. This usually involved a chainsaw and a trailer and the side of the road somewhere.

I've got a constant supply of broken pallets that you can have. They have nails in, but are good for burning. Just PM me if you're interested.

If you do a chainsaw course the Forestry commision will let you go in and cut up any fallen timber. My mate does it, I think its about £40/year.

NOOPS 160 wrote:Just a thought  I have been known to ask a farmer or two for windblown timber, branches etc over the years ,if it appears to be stuck on a fence or destroyed it. The offer of removal for free(providing you leave a tidy job), can sometimes be to everyone's benefit and opens the door for future supplies. Having just supplied a mate with 20 odd ton for free in this way its worth a stab.........
Also found that Farmers are quite keen to get fallen trees off their fields etc.

Another good option is to pick up from beaches. It surprising how many trees / big old branches get washed up and I recon cutting them up and taking them away is probably a public service. They do, of course, belong to the queen but she's never complained so I'm assuming she is OK with it.

Oh, and isn't it cool being able to burn stuff in the house :flame

Real hunter-gatherer stuff this - should win you a few brownie points ( ) after you've finished a hard days graft.

I used to help my old man when I was a kid also - great for learning how to use a chainsaw and how to go deaf.

Nothing like the smell of logs... (on the fire that is)
