Anyone know a good gym in Edinburgh other than David Lloyd?
I quite fancy the look of the Post House befind the Zoo..
If anyone has a good regular one they can recomend it'd be muchos appreciated..
Oh and prices?

Gym's are a great money maker... if every gym had to cater for each of their members actually using it, they'd have to be 10 times the size!
If you're a gym buff though, then the big ones are really the only option. If you think you're going to be a gym buff, buy an Edinburgh Leisure card and go to the council gyms for £4 a pop. If you keep going 3 times a week for more than a month, then maybe you can justify a yearly membership.

So true. I cant wait till Jan when I can get out of my 12 month membership at Next Generation. So many good intentions.... so little get-up-and-goGregR wrote:Gym's are a great money maker... if every gym had to cater for each of their members actually using it, they'd have to be 10 times the size!![]()

I've started cycling to work (7 miles each way) and lost 5kg in 3 weeks it's great although the dark nights are coming in so I may have to knock that on the head till nexy year.

Im a member of Greens at the Corn Exchange - its a good gym but i just never use it and its £52 per month
Im just away to cancel the membership and join the Boroughmuir Gym at Meggatland beacause for one it is across the road from my house and two is is either £29 per month or £3 for every time you go so it is much cheaper - it is a much smaller gym but it is quiet

Night cycling (not on roads) is great fun; I have a great light on the bike, and am thinking about a head light to go on my cycling hat (avoids use of word 'helmet') tooBiggestNizzy wrote:Dominic wrote:Buy a bike; it's cheaper, more fun, and if you don't use it, you can always sell it

Yeah cycling 10 miles a day, best of all it is exercise incorporated into your working day, I cycle into work and have no option but to do the same to get home! - I enjoy cycling, but i find it hard to motivate myself when i get home, so by doing it on the way to and from work it is easy!BiggestNizzy wrote:Dominic wrote:Buy a bike; it's cheaper, more fun, and if you don't use it, you can always sell it

I have taken this week off, but has been pretty constant for over a year now, having also done a Coast to Coast cycle over three days, and also off my own back did the Scottish Etape - 81 miles in 1 day!
Anyway, as Dom said if you dont like it then you can sell it!

it depends what you are going to be doing at the gym - if its for cardio then buy yourself a bike or some running shoes...
If you are going to be pumping heavy weights 3 to 4 times a week then join a virgin active gym - there dumbells go up to 50kg (which is not bad as most gyms only go up to 40ish kg) and you can load the hammer strenght machines with all the weight you like!
The one in Glasgow charge £38 a month (year contract). Its miles away from my house but its worth it and afterwards I can jump in to the elise and race home!
Goodluck!

i work with a few ex pro footballers and they are telling me to go buy a rowing machine and skipping ropes....
like the bike idea - although when my car gets here on tuesday i was planning on driving to work..
its more cardio i think - walked to the shops the other day and felt like i was a heavy smoker doing 100 a day..
