Alright chaps, wondering if anyone might happen to have any recomendations for good grub around the Dundee area? I'm off out for a birthday meal with some friends this weekend and looking for something other than the usual Dundee fodder of Jahangir/Antonios/Andres. Anyone got any fave restaurants/pubs (preferably within or not too far from Dundee) in the area? Something not too posh but nice food. I noticed the Airlie Arms Hotel in Kirriemuir looks pretty nice, could anyone here comment on the food?

Oh and I wish I'd been able to make it to the St Andrews/Leuchars bash last week, looks like it was great fun!

Maybe next time eh!

If you are thinking as far afield as kirriemuir then better head to Aylth and the Lands of Loyal Hotel. (landsofloyal.com)
Top place, top food. Totally recomended... for any occasion.

I stay just off Blackness Road

Has your car got an E4 *** plate? (spotted a blue one in the area recently)

Any, back on topic - Wigmores in Broughty Ferry does a nice variation of grub to suit all tastes, without breaking the bank - I was at school with Steve the owner, tell him you know me & you'll get f**k all off the bill

I was at Bellefield Avenue (off Roseangle) until recently, but I've just moved to a place on Shaftsbury Road (down the bottom of Blackness Avenue). Not an E4 ***, no, mines silver with a dodgy red soft-top, reg T667 ***.

Cheers for the recommendations so far, Lands of Loyal looks great, but maybe a bit too upmarket for us lot

Wigmores looks tempting, and f**k all off the bill is better than nothing!

Cargills in Blairgowrie is great - not posh, and maybe cheaper than LoL?
Mind u, they can be expensive for somethings. Superb food tho, some of the best ive had

My fav place around these here parts.

Theres the australia place,Kookaburras, near Forfar looks good. Been there for lunch once, had v nice soup

Dundee kinda lacks good places to eat.
I like the Ciao Sorrento place - but obviously that means italian

Always had good meals there.

I walk the dog along Shaftsbury most evenings, you must have the car tucked away in a garage then? Are you in the new townhouses across from the church?

B/Ferry has many eateries - the Thai near the railway crossing is pretty damn good too, as is the Indos round the corner

Top drawer fillet steaks are gettable at The Hotel Broughty Ferry (junction at the bottom of Claypotts Rd)

Yeah, I'm in one of the new houses, moved specifically to get better parking cos I didn't really fancy the bumper-to-bumper parking down Bellefield.

There's normally a really naff-looking (and naff-driving) Citroen XM parked in the driveway, belongs to one of my flatmates, who insists it's a "classic" (though a classic 'what' I'm not sure). What sort of dog have you got? I'll start yelling at random dog-walking strangers out the window, one of them's bound to be you!

Another vote for Bon Apetit - food was great, and v. cheap for what you got! I would have suggested Mains Castle, but I hear tht's gone doon the tubes. Mandarin Garden is fecking excellent for chinese. Invercarse (hotel along Perth Road) is good for traditional grub. Further afield you could try the Seafood Resturaunt in St Ands. Never been but the guy that owns it is a great chef (so I'm told) - you can get non-seafood there too.

Went for Wigmores this time, must say it was rather good. They had a pretty good wine selection and £11.50 for 3 courses was v. cheap! (they made up for it with the wine prices tho)

Nice to eat somewhere where they can actually cook carrots and broccoli without boiling them to mush! Cheers for the other recommendations too, they're going on "the list" so I'll get round to em eventually.
