AA Parts and Labour Question...

Post by Ron » Wed Sep 12, 2007 10:04 am

Recently got this cover and could really do with using it for something. It's a significant problem but the car is still driveable :(

Do you actually have to be broken down and get a call out to use this cover?

I believe you need to be recovered for it to be valid! :)

You have to have stopped with a problem and called the AA, and they have to attend. He will diagnose or agree with you as to what the problem is.

You do not necessarily have to be recovered by a low loader, if the car is driveable you can arrange to take it to a suitable garage, it just has to be VAT registered, and they then have to put in a report to the AA.

However you can not drive it home and then to a garage, it has to go straight to the garage. For me it is no problem as the garage is only a mile from home, so if it is not a terminal problem, which most have been and therefore low loaded, you can position it in a suitable spot and then call them out.

This is not cheating, it is just making sure that you are covered, ie when my clutch went at Cadwell, I could not be bothered waiting hours for them again, so I drove home and then broke down the next day a couple of miles from home. The AA van followed me to my local garage to make sure that I got there, and the claim for a new clutch went through without a problem.

In fact I have never had a problem for any claim, and that has been for three a year, which has now been upped to five. You just have to make sure that you have a service invoice from a VAT garage showing at least an oil and filter change that you can fax through to them. They will not accept the stamp in you service book.

Ways and means Rich. They normally accept what the garage tells them, and have never been out to inspect.

However every one of mine has been legit, in the the case of the clutch it was the CRB which had broken up.
