Free Minutes.
Save the radios for abroad when it is pounds per minute unless you have sorted your Vodaphone passport

i've driven with radios when i've been out with my biker mates & really rate them highly. Very usefull when overtaking as a group as the lead car can talk people through the traffic & when its safe to overtake.
Standard CB radio would be the way to go - i've used motorola ones in the past but looking on fleabay they seem to be pretty scarce.
check out these guys for more info - around £100 for a decent one....

We used cheapish push to talk motorola stylee ones on the way to le mans.... anything over 30mph and you couldnt hear sh*t.
Best to try and get more expensive ones i reckon... ideally test before you buy though !

I'd agree with that. Plus you will need to make sure that they are operated hands free

Not worth 3 points and and a fine.

I got a set of 4 from Argos last year for a Euro trip. They are very handy at keeping the group together. Can be hard to hear in noisy cars though.

Ive used a pair of them on runs before and its great for banter between cars etc. I would be very hesitant to use them to inform the car behind that its clear to overtake though. That in my eyes could lead to big problems and would prefer to stick to the indicator method!

loads of sinfo here, including the claim that you don't need hands free as it is not duplex (unverified though).

Yup, no handsfree kit is required - the law restricts handsfree based on the devices carrier frequency.... The restricted frequencies are mobile fone only - not CB

The use of 2-way radio equipment (unless the device can also be used as a phone) when driving is not included in the new offence but remember there is still a risk of distraction and prosecution under other powers

I have driven hundreds of miles now with the cloggies, and the system works very well for them, they are well practised with it, and it seems to be perfectly safe.
Most of the time I have been leading, but I went with them yesterday morning when they left here, and sat at the back for a rest, meaning to go for a short run.
However they took the wrong roads a couple of times to Turrif and Huntly, so they asked me to take the lead, and I ended up going as far as over the Lecht, and splitting from them at Tomintoul.
There were 8 of us, which is normally too many to keep in a group, but the big difference was how quickly the tail enders were overtaking and keeping together, which was down to the radios.
However the pace that I was running at would not have impressed Scotty or Craig, but made a nice change and meant that I could do some sight seeing.

Used the basic Motorola set on our Austrian trip last month; came in really useful when our alternator belt went while I was trying to keep up with James at around 120mph on the autobhan!!! Could arrange a pull-over to examine the damage.
Have to say that garages are much better in Germany where a friendly Rover dealer had me back on the road in no time at all despite him never having laid eyes on an Elise in the flesh before
