I assume you have not driven a modern diesel then? Certainly the lastest ones I have driven are very responsive and free revving.

today, just for example, I was at an Audi day, drive 8 cars, 3 were their latest dismals, and yes, they are good, but, not a patch on their better petrol variants.

the best dismal they have at the moment is the one in the SQ5, and it's impressive, BUT, it's still pretty lethargic compared to the 3L petrol engine.

I can beat that, by taking my diesel Rangie round the Nurburgring, with 4 fellow SE'ers on board, and Ape trying to get past us, by sending us texts, telling us to get out of the way, and stop causing such a smokescreen!

have just dug out a photo to prove it. As you can see Ape was well behind, and had no chance of overtaking.............

if i remember rightly Iain, you were hanging out the sunroof to get the porsche photo?

I still had my helmet on, as i was coming down the final straight when the GT went past on the road in the opposite direction, and i drove straight off the track, out the carpark and down the main road

Bob van Melzen kept pestering me to put an R sticker on my car after I got the Honda. I eventually say I couldn't be arsed, but he could put whatever sticker he liked on it if he felt so strongly about the red R sticker.

THE VERY NEXT DAY, I woke up to that sticker. I still to this day don't have a clue how they got it made so fast.
