Most of you are too young to know of Gadaffi's background.

Like Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness who are now so called Statesmen, he was a mass murderer, torturer, terrorist leader, and responsible for countless numbers of terrorist attacks, and backed several of the worlds top terrorist organisations.

He was a prime target for the CIA's wet department, but they never got him. Now he is a huggy huggy buddy of the USA and UK.

Try a Google on him.

ps Robin is far more altruistic than I am in acknowledging what the views of the Libyan population may be, but when that plane landed, mine went along the lines of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Tripoli.

However I am a warmongering SOB, so that is not surprising.

You must have known it was going to happen though?
The decision was made weeks ago......the visits etc were for the media's benefit.

I remember the media here welcomed back Kenny Ritchie to Scotland.
Why were they celebrating the return of a convicted murderer? Albeit there wasn't a parade at his plane.
I think he got done with a serious assault/attempt murder here shortly afterwards.....dunno if he was convicted though.

Yep he did 21 years on death row before they sent him back to Scotland on some technicality. Obviously he was innocent. This was his record afterwards.

"Richey has been arrested several times since his return to the UK. Most seriously, he was charged with assaulting and robbing 63-year-old Robert McCall at his Edinburgh apartment on July 11 2008 and another assault six days later and faced trial in March 2009. However, the judge presiding over the case dismissed the charges explaining that he felt Richey "had suffered enough". Most recently, he was charged with stealing a woman's purse."

Where is George Galloway when you want him?

Always enjoyed his rantings, in between wanting to slit his throat.

So on the various subjects raised (and others)

I don't think we will ever find out the truth about Lockerbie - if you have seen or read any of it you will know that he was convicted on a tiny piece of evidence supposedly bought by him in a clothes shop in Malta - i doubt he did it,it was all arranged behind closed doors.

I remember reading at the time that one person (i think he/she was scottish - it was a local paper) only managed to get on the plane at the last minute (it had been fully booked apparently - and that it would have been full is no real surprise - people going home for Xmas) - but when it went down there were only 289 people on board - funny that, 747's hold about 450 - were people warned off ??

Has anyone else noticed that despite being elected as left leaning and a "new broom" Obama's speeches are all as xenophobic and paranoid as Bush and Cheney's?

The biggest terrorist organisation in the world is the US government - if you want to fight terrorism - fight them - They have along history of overthrowing governments that didn't turn out the way they wanted - Chile Panama and Colombia to name a few - they helped install a military dictatorship in Chile that murdered thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of people

Did anyone else here know that up until a couple of weeks ago it was impossible for any US citizen to be charged with ANY offence in Iraq? - The Animals that worked for Blackwater could (and did) shoot anyone they wanted with no possibility of being charged with any offence.

If you haven't seen the Channel 4 film "Iraq no way out" find it and watch it - best example of total incompetence and mismanagement i have ever seen.

Oh yes -and we were right to release him

2 words "Guantano Bay"

The place where you sit for years without trial being tortured. I really hope the scottish parliment rip into the americans, but I don't think they will.
