My Honda 340r broke twice, well 3 times. One because the airbox ducting was too long (my fault), broke an exhaust weld on track, fuel pipes corroded. In 8 years I was pretty happy with that. Oh and it went through several batteries as I was too tight to buy a Optimate.

I was just saying it in jest, my Evora after 3.5 years, 42.5k miles and 4 track days has only had one issue that took it off the road so I'm quite happy with that.

Every other warranty claim really has been fairly minor until this recent MMC saga which has seen the car with more issues than ever.

It's like in schools these days where the 'special' kid gets the 'child of the month' prize and the other kids are ignored.

Under performers get all the plaudits it would seem.

In general the reputation of after sales in the motor trade is pretty poor, we just got used to exceptional in the hands of Craig.

I blame the poor performance on the multi franchise ownership of the one or two big players who don't need to make any effort to get sales or provide a reasonable level of aftercare as they pretty much have a monopoly across huge swathes of the country. :?

( I would add though that in recent years I have had nothing but good service from MMC )

I suspect it is more like they didn't care.

You've got to wonder the service across the rest of he group must be even worse if Murray Lotus won that award.

-----------------------------------------
Before you read on, I have to first of all say the sceptics are probably going to think I'm at it now. I think if I was reading onwards about someone else I'd be thinking that but honestly not a word you read next is a lie, I swear it is the truth.

So I had one of the dash lights come on and since the weekend my clutch has felt like it has been ready to give up on me, the bite point is practically not there now and the pedal now requires a fair amount more force that it did just a few weeks ago. So on Monday quick message to CMC and was booked in first thing this morning to drop it off before going to work. So it's about 7.15am and for the first time fairly cold so I get in the car, start her up and stick on the front and rear demister (first time i'm using the rear demister after summer). Wait about a minute and then set off. A few minutes into the journey I notice in my rear view that the demister isn't clearing the rear window. At first I think maybe it just needs a bit more time as it was quite cold and as the car is getting on a bit maybe it just isn't as quick as it used to be. So another few minutes into the journey and still no joy so now I'm thinking yep it is definitely not working. No big deal I'm dropping the car to CMC I'll get that checked out at the same time as the clutch.

So get a message from CMC this afternoon:

Image

Lead to the rear window demister and the rear centre brake light isn't connected. So clearly it hasn't been reconnected when the car was reassembled following the paint work. Now I know what you're thinking CMC must be at it now. Craig even said to me he thought Saj is going to think we are at it  and for a moment one might have thought that but then I remembered that when I was driving home the other day a member of the public took a picture of the back of my car on the motorway and posted it up on Rev Limits you'll see below:

Image

Now that was posted on Rev Limits on October 10th, but the reason for showing it is because the picture is of me braking and if you look at the centre of the spoiler no brake light working truth be told I forgot I even had a brake light in the spoiler until today. So the point i'm making is that the rear brake light wasn't working before it went into CMC. Now I had no idea my rear brake light was not working at all, the only thing I was originally going to CMC for was the dash light and the clutch. Again for any sceptics out there here is my original message to get my car booked in, nothing to do with any rear demister or rear brake light.

Honestly you can't make this stuff up :damnfunny

Blimey, it's getting even worse. Can't believe that they have missed so many stuff. Surprised that Lotus have not been all over it by now as surely they must realise the damage that it is doing to the MMC service in Scotland. I can remember the bad days at Murray's when I had the S1 Elise 111S in early 2000's and its terrible that it is going back to that level of service.

Not good for a manufacturer (especially one with such a close knit community) and I can't see Murray's resolving this unless they find someone as dedicated as Craig to turnaround their service department.

However, thankfully you still have Craig to sort your car out as I can imagine you would be at your wits end without him.

Just a quick question here, does Murrays have a body shop and do their own bodywork or is it farmed out?
Obviously the car wasn't checked over before being handed back.

I remember putting my freelander in a few years ago to the supplying main dealers body shop to get the paint on the tailgate and rear arches sorted as part of the deal and the job they did was laughable. No prep done on the arches or masking up so where the paint had detached was clearly visible and they sprayed half the arch liners as well making it look really cheap and nasty. Could have done a much better job myself in the drive with a rattle can.
On the tailgate the finish was quite good actually.....but they also painted the lower part of the back window and covered the rear bumper in overspray(both blindingly obvious) and if that wasn't good enough they stuck the badges in wrong place, right at the bottom of the tailgate and if you tried to open it they caught on the bumper.....
Needless to say I refused to take the car away much to the service agents surprise!

it's sad that it's so rare to find people in the main dealer motor trade who take pride in the work they are putting out. At the same time though it plays into the hands of the private independents (such as Craig) who do.

AFAIK they farm it out to Willowbrae - certainly did a few years ago anyway.

That was when Craig was there... they use JM accident repair in Bonnyrigg as far as I know from my investigations last December when my car was hit! I didn't use them after asking about them on here...

Mark you are correct my car was sent to http://www.jmbonnyrigg.co.uk

Exactly the reason I requested that they let me give the car to Protek in Bathgate for the paintwork but MMC didn't go with it.

Bet now they wish they had listened to me and sent it to Protek instead.
