Re: £21k Estate Car.... Choices? Opinions?
Insignia TD vx edition I think.
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.
....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

Go to Evans Halshaw at East Kilbride, with details of your Arnie Shark deal, my experience is that they will normally match it, they hate to be beaten by Arnie.

Went to Evans Halshaw at EK already and they told me the car I wanted didn't exist. They then went onto the internet, to the Vauxhall site and found out it did exist after all. Utterly incompetent.
Car in question is the Insignia SRi VX-Line Red, Sports Tourer... complete with a wee bit of body kit and 20" rims. Bling bling
Still t.b.c. is whether we get the 4x4 version or just 2wd. Depends on availability now.
Arnold sales guy gave me the price list they use. No haggling required and they'll knock £10k off list. Just silly.

Actually tried to go to a Peter Vardy dealer yesterday.... but they close on Sundays because they are Christians (according to the dealer round the corner).

Got to say my recent experience of stealers was equally awful......not sure there is a nice way to buy a mass produced car.

Pretty sure there's not so once that's established all dealings are based purely on getting the best price

We recently bought a base 4 door Corsa for one of Ann's staff - her 2 requirements were: cheap as possible, and needed it urgently.
Peter Vardy came up with a deal that was good and would have the car on her drive in 3 days. Evans H were determined to beat them on price (& did by £300) but weren't sure they could get the car from another branch so quick. We signed on the basis that they would give her another car at their cost until hers was ready. So she then ended up running about in a high spec 4x4 Antara for just over 3 weeks, supplied and insured by them as the Corsa wasnt available and they had to source a car from the factory

Got our Motability Insignia from Vardy.
Quite pleasant sitting there speccing the top model when you do not have to pay for it. The TDi also chips well, I bought a German one for £80 which does a good job. A re-map would be better but the chip has to come off for servicing.

I have had generally +ve experiences with various dealers over 17 yrs or so.
Depends on many things I guess but remember you always have a choice...

Bought a new Golf Estate at the weekend. Good deals to be had ( end of Q2? Or maybe because there's a mk7 estate on the way soon? Or they're so dull nobody wants them? Dunno...). With 0% finance on new (plus 3 years servicing, and a ton off list) I couldn't make a used or nearly-new one make financial sense.
Almost bought a red one, but that was too exciting, so managed to calm down and get a grey one.

I miss my red GTi.... one of the best cars I have owned.
Re: £21k Estate Car.... Choices? Opinions?
Not sure a 140bhp TDi estate will compare to a GTi...
Flame suit on... I had a poke around an Octavia which I think is better looking on the outside, but the cabin was a noticeable step downmarket. Might (maybe, possibly, perhaps) have still gone for the Skoda if there wasn't a good deal to be had on the Golf.
Dealer wise, Specialist Cars VW Aberdeen, nasty nasty nasty. Specialist Cars Skoda Dundee, couldn't be arsed to even acknowledge us. Barnetts VW Dundee, an absolute pleasure. Had a looky at a used golf in West End Honda (in the Ferry) too.. also good to deal with, no pressure, very clean car.

Not entirely, but, the TDi's are torquetastic.graeme wrote:Not sure a 140bhp TDi estate will compare to a GTi...
.

Have to agree with you on the comment regarding interior finish. I noticed a step up in quality going to the Audi too.... (s'pose I would say that though

Re: £21k Estate Car.... Choices? Opinions?
I agree, Audi is a step up again and I think you really start to notice the difference 5 or 10 years down the line. We considered the A3 5-door but it was too small, and the A4 Avant was too big for us and too expensive for our Generic Transport Appliance needs.
Besides, both our neighbours have new, high-spec his-n-hers Audi's on the drive, and I refuse to start playing "Keeping up appearances" with oil workers! I'm much happier with having a classless VW and a noisy Subaru dripping coolant on the drive.

Quick question I have been meaning to ask Dom for ages, I’ll ask it here because the answer will probably be of interest to a few SE residents.
As a Schedule D tax payer with a VAT registered firm are there any company car / lease options which I can use to save myself money?
