Here's a radical suggestion mike, why don't you get a nice handling but frugal estate car for the road/family duties and a great handling hot hatch for the occasional track day.

That way you don't have to compromise the family transport or worry about sticking it in a gravel trap.

I was thinking a 320d / Clio Trophy combo could be ideal.

Oh, hold on.........
VX220 2.2 - Gone
BMW 335d Touring F31- Fastest car on the road
MINI Cooper 1.5- More fun than the BMW

An Octy vRS tdi wagon and an elderly S1 could also be considered ideal ;-)

There's a reason you bought what you bought already Mike. I like your combo actually. If it ain't broke. Don't fix.

I have had the BMW for about a year and a half i will have you know!

The Clio, well...

As said i think it depends how much i enjoy the Clio down at Oulton Park and Anglesey. From having a play on my private race track (Muirkirk, open most days!) it seems pretty well set up now with all the Sachs being rebuilt, more aggressive geo with camber bolts and shims plus it now has a rear ARB :D

BMW will probaly be gone 2 weeks after little one number 2 is born once we realise its to small, same as what happened with the Skoda!

Sorry, none of them appeal at all.

WTF is the ST exhaust all about? Is that really standard? :puke

What's not too like? Explain yourself Mr Woody!

Practical hatchback, decent handling (reportedly) and a big powerful engine 8) ...sounds good to me.

I would however say that the focus does not appeal so much, as it is not available in 3 door; which would be my preference. I agree the exhaust end is over designed, but you can find many over designed details on any new car. Finally, I would say that none appeal to me as a brand new purchase, but in a couple of years time, as a used car, they are tempting.... still think the M135 is where my money will be going at that point.
