Just got a call from my wee sister who was meant to be back from Majorca last Friday.
Thomson's have come up with a totally stress free route home!
They're getting a ferry to Barcelona, then a coach from Barcelona to Calais to get a ferry to Dover.
Thomson's are then going to bus them up to Glasgow.
All this with a 2 year old in tow!

I think my Dad and I are heading to Dover to pick them up!

From BBC News 24 news ticker:
British Airways wrote:Following successful flight tests blanket restrictions on airpsace are unnecessary
Lord Adonis wrote:some uk flight restrictions may be lifted following a "dramatic" reduction in ash levels
BBC News wrote:F-16 fighters have suffered engine damage after flying through volcanic ash cloud
BBC News wrote:Lufthansa granted permission to fly 50 planes back to Germany with passengers
Hm.

Cor, nightmare.

At least they are en route mind you.

Would be much more exciting to wait for the Ark Royal to come and pick them up, though!

Just heard on the local news that flight restrictions may be lifted for a limited time tomorrow. Still all a bit ifs, buts and maybes but perhaps light at the end of the tunnel.

Fingers crossed for everyone hoping to come and go in the next few days - it'll be a surreal experience to be the first people into an airport that's been closed for a week!

Cheers,

EDI was certainly surreal today. Entire checkin hall was literally shuttered closed. Dozen BA ticket desk staff all hanging round wondering what to do with themselves. I think they were glad of some customers to attend to when we rocked up!

Just spoke to my Dad . He was out on a flying lesson and came over the bridges and took a run up the main runway at EDI in a R22 helicopter . Ment to ask him if he was humming Ride of the Valkyries. 8)

Got a mate who is an aircraft engineer with Jet2 based in Edinburgh. Was sent home today and asked to take it as leave. :( Rumours of unpaid leave being next stage if drags on for a while. A pain for those temporarily affected with their holiday but potentially worse for others.

Some might say a shadey more than a pain but I get the spirit of what you mean. Without question, the personal economic impact is lamentable.
