Still wonder if the car would feel better to drive on proper summers in the dry though, maybe next year...

Slightly smug that the Alfa is on all seasons, so no need to spend time tyre swapping or wheel changing here

I have run my A4 workhorse on Goodyear All Seasons for 2 years now and I think they are a good compromise, especially here in ScotlandCorranga wrote:Slightly smug that the Alfa is on all seasons, so no need to spend time tyre swapping or wheel changing here

Ellie's car has been on winters during the cold weather for a couple years and has been brilliant. Actually felt more secure than my disco 3 on yoko geolanders tho admittedly they were pretty brittle looking. Fitted general grabber AT in June so will be interesting to see how good a compromise they are on wear vs wet grip vs winter grip.

Grass, gravel, snow setting on the LR Terrain Response does make a difference to how the traction control and ABS respond. Our Discovery 3 on the standard Goodyear Wranglers was pretty good in snow for traction, just had to remember it is almost 3t when you try to stop or corner.

Agreed the TR is might clever though it was in slow maneuvers I found the old tyres lacking despite the technical jiggery pokery. The BMW just felt less slippy.Scottish Scrutineer wrote:Grass, gravel, snow setting on the LR Terrain Response does make a difference to how the traction control and ABS respond. No denying the laws of physics tho. Now a 700kg plastic car with land rover terrain response and big knobbly tyres? That'd be fun!

What tyres did you go for, I'll need some shortly on the 159, and want to replace the "Hero" and "goodride" mixture that are currently on it?Corranga wrote:Slightly smug that the Alfa is on all seasons, so no need to spend time tyre swapping or wheel changing here

They are Goodyear all season (can't remember which tbh). They came with the car, just fitted shortly prior to me buying it last August as the previous owner lived in Aboyne.RDH wrote:What tyres did you go for, I'll need some shortly on the 159, and want to replace the "Hero" and "goodride" mixture that are currently on it?Corranga wrote:Slightly smug that the Alfa is on all seasons, so no need to spend time tyre swapping or wheel changing here

Mine is on standard Lusso 17s.
Never driven the car on regular summer tyres, so don't have a comparison unfortunately.

I'd temper your smugness as 4wd on summer tyres, although undeniably better than 2wd, it's no substitute for winter tyres. Witness my brother-in-law 2 years ago spinning all 4 wheels in his Disco

The option (I think) on the disco was Pirelli scorpion road or M+S, mine came with the road ones, changed them out for M+S tho when they were done.Sanjoy wrote:OEM on the disco not M&S?Doc883 wrote:On the basis of your Avatar this will be a product from the Land Rover stable (Disco ? ) ?rossybee wrote:Hopefully the timing of my family veehickle replacement will negate the requirement for winters, and I will be awash with smugosity at the sign of the first snowflake![]()

Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.
My understanding of m&s was more to do with the ratio of tread to gap than actual winter capability. Certainly m&s will be better equipped than a summer road tyre but for ultimate winter grip best going for a tyre that is snowflake stamped suggesting high silica content and lots of sipes?

Thinking about this seriously this year owing to spare set of rims for the MINI, cluttering our garden room right now...

My thought process was that I would be using them over a number of years and to do a fairly specific task so best to go with a reasonable quality. (Got Yoko W Drives a couple of years ago)

Europe mandates 4mm legal limit for winters which leaves many bargains for our non wading depth winters.
