I have been running Goodyear All Season Tyres on my A4 work hack for over a year now and they perform really well, especially in the wet, and tyre wear has been really good. Not nearly as impressive as the full winter set on the S-Max but a good compromise.

Tested the Vredersteins in anger today on the touareg, ice and snow covered car park, -3 deg. Couldnt even get the wheels spin, massive grip, and stopped very quickly........no fun at all

Same make I've got for the Rangie, pretty epic in the snow. Just like driving in the wet. Lent mine to Hendeg while his alloys were getting refurb'd so only have the all season tyres on but still quite good considering.

4yrs driving in Munich and Swiss alps over snowy winter months using a BMW 120d fitted with winter continental tyres was perfectly fine. I've just taken delivery of continental winter contact 830p for my subaru outback. Tried a few other brands while out their and the continentals are notably better performers (apart from studded or Nordic spec tyres which I've also used).

I wanted the newer conti 850p but can't get my size anywhere yet...

That's what's on my 159. They seem good in the wet / cold, but haven't seen any snow yet.

I've got the Snowtrac 3's on my little A2, they're amazingly good in the snow, wouldn't be without them. :thumbsup
