Top Gear Season 20 30/6/13

Post by flyingscot68 » Mon Jul 22, 2013 8:21 pm

I quite enjoyed it, thought the hover van piece was a laugh. Amazed that they were allowed to have that thing on the water.
The Mercedes segment at the beginning was interesting. Good to see that electric SLS, pity about the range though!
Still a good watch if you ask me but ultimately they are victims of their own success. Difficult to maintain the high entertainment level they achieved in earlier seasons over such a long time.
I think they should call it a day soon rather than let it fade in to obscurity which it no doubt will if they continue as they are.
TG also raised the bar when it comes to photography, some of the camera work is superb. Look at Fifth Gear now, they've had to up their game in that area so we've got TG to thank for that.

TG is a pretty substantial global franchise. Live Shows, syndicated series (eg the US one I guess?), TG mag, yada yada.

In fact it's possible there's not much BBC money going into the show, relatively speaking. Which would explain some of the larking about!

Good on the fella.

I sat with Cameron (21 months old now) and we both belly laughed our way through the whole lot - Kellie and I were astounded his attention was captivated for so long.

Maybe target market is changing? :-)

Still laughing now as he shouted "Van, Van, Boat, Boat" how confused he was.

For the record - I loved it - I know it's staged but it's good family fun. Particularly liked the fit young lady at the side of the canal grabbing at her dress as it got "Hover Vanned"! :-) Love how they don't take themselves too seriously - the wetsuits - LOL!

Mercs were good too - strange seeing something so quick being so quiet!

Think they have the balance about right this series - the super/hyper car trip was epic.

Genuinely think they enjoy making it too - and why not? Just wish we were all able to get up to such antics!

I forgot to mention our two were transfixed for a whole hour too. Nothing short of an iPad or an episode of David Attenborough can achieve that these days ;-)

Clarkson took home more than £14m last year for TG. Not bad for a show that has lost its way :D

For all the staging, I think they looked generally anxious at the weir, and very relieved at the bottom.
Plus the bit when clarckson and hammond went down to get into the van in the lock, it didn't look like hammond had realised that he was about to get wet.
I did find that rather funny...

Total sh*te apart from the Mercs. Hovervan was complete and utter p*sh from start to finish. Clarkson pretending to be an oaf, James getting upset about it, Hammond being small, then a penis joke. Change the bloody record! The number of actors in this one (man falling out of boat, people at restaurant getting blown away) made me rage at the TV. Setting up their own pre-written catastrophes is bad enough, but the cast of thousands just makes it sad. All it needed was Benny Hill music, or Frank Spencer on roller skates...

The Xmas special had better be the best yet to make up for this series!

The problem is you have to watch it to find out how crap the episode is, and it's too late by then. :(

Just check on here Graeme before you decide to watch it or not. Then you'll know everything that was on the show, what was good/bad and take an informed decision on whether to watch or take the All Star Mr & Mrs option :thumbsup
