Think the car industry is the wrong one to pick when blaming MT?

And more pits shut in the 70ies than 80ies.

I cannot imagine hating anyone enough to condone "rot in hell" as in the last link.
Not even if id lost my living because i had I chosen to work in a failing industry that wanted the rest of the country to pay for my wages. Maybe I'm naive but in that situation I believe I'd switch industry and want to work my ass off to get out of that situation. I would most certainly not like being a burden to others.

I am from Kilmarnock, it used to be a industial town with world leading companies in it. Since the war that has all but dispaeared.

Glenfield and Kennedy was bought up by Americans, asset stripped and now employs about 20 people
Massey Fergeson moved to France because they strike less (Masey's would go on strike because someone forgot their sandwiches)
BMK killed off by cheap overseas carpets.
Saxone same as the BMK, nobody bought their shoes.
Glacier metal - poor managment/industrial action and the decline of the UK car industry mean that that place is on it's last legs.
Johnie Walker - That's now in Edinburgh as they got a better deal on the factory that and the staff were very highly paid in Kilmarnock.
Hyspec Engineering - Sold of to a company from Oman as the previous owners couldn't get the cash to expand.
SKF - they got screwed over by the Germans (ok they were in Irvine) the machinery was rebuilt over here and started producing more and better parts than their German counterparts.
Vesuvius - They got screwed over by a Polish CEO protecting a plant in Poland, we was removed from his post when it all went tit's up but that disn't help those that lost their jobs.
Ayrshire had a lot of mining and that was dying a death anyway, how many people have coal fires ?

I even got milk as a kid, It was full fat and sometimes warm.

Maybe I was lucky my parents were always in work, Thatcher didn't ruin my life or my town. More recently Labour stuffed the Firemen's union and BMW drove Rover into the ground before selling it to some cowboys to filled up their pension pots.

Goverments are crap and they make mistakes, John Major was to boring. Tony Blair made a Weapons inspector kill himself, entered into an illegal war and Gordon Brown spent all the money.

well said Nizzy.

What gets me just now is all the "omg, the gov are cutting services, thats so wrong and how dare they do that to people."
Err... Greece?

Overspend and there are consequences... and here we are.
Yet folk seem fully behind carrying on as we were - or even doing more public sector work...
Thats heading back to the problem that lead to Maggie being voted in - state run, and no making money.

I just dont understand.

as a kid, I remember having that candles were often bought, resupplying those that had been used.
And everyone knew where the Torch was.

At the time, I didnt know why that was.

You're all dead to me.

Nizzy I know where you live. I'll be round in 10 minutes to explain why you are wrong. I'm gonna do it through a megaphone from the street though, to a theme tune stolen from the Wizard of Oz. With a big banner. I may bring my brazier for old times sake.

When the bodies were lying in the streets waiting to be buried, the Councils planned to take them out to sea and ditch them there.

Unions, don't you just love them.

From the stories you tell Tut you were flying round the world for various goverments earning a bomb and living the high life. We were the ones in the sh*t.
Half the rest on here made a mint raping the countries natural resources and the sheep dont want to upset the Aberdeen party line on SE.

Nice moral high ground.
