Here's a strange one : is it me ? If you stare at the car (black and white squares/squiggles) for a few seconds or so, then lift your eyes up to the trees in the background, what colour does the white of the squares change to ?

I've been wondering what makes it look so odd and i've just realised it's the lack of roof scoop!!!

Re: New V6 Exige pics
Love it. Looks-wise, absolutely spot on.
Need to see the detailing close up, but I'm a sucker for the race track refugee look, so things like those ally wing supports do it for me. Like the increased deck length on the rear, which in a single stroke takes away the 'stubbiness' of all the Elise based cars. This looks more 'full size'
Rear looks purposeful and appears to have seen wind-tunnel time, esp the diffuser. The comedy of the 111R diffuser was cutting a hole in it for the exhaust, which (when you put it in a windtunnel - they did in a book I have (Racecar Aerodynamics)) ruins the underbody smoothing airflow. Seems they have gone back to proper functionality with this - I likes

You realise that with all this positivity for a new model, Graeme will faint when he reads this?
I don't think I've ever seen a new Lotus launched where we weren't bitching and moaning from the off - even the 211 was criticised as too heavy and underpowered! Either we're losing our touch, or perhaps Lotus might just have got this right?

Re: New V6 Exige pics
It's definitely too heavy!
1080kg will turn into 1120kg before you know it and that will feel pretty fat on track I think, though a lot will depend on how high up in the car that weight is.
It's encouraging that there is no roof scoop and you can see through the rear window to the front window, implying a 211 style or air/water/air intercooler layout perhaps, or maybe the intercooler just isn't fitted in the show car.
The proof will be in the pudding though ... so who's going to buy a 50K+ Exige and track it from day one?
Cheers,
Robin

Re: New V6 Exige pics
I'm tempted to agree and I'm always bleating on about weight - but look how wrong we were about the 211. It was called too heavy, as it couldn't even manage to be lighter than an early S1. Didn't seem to matter too much to it's manners, driving feel or laptimes. 1100kg is pretty much what the F40 was. With about 480bhp. Nobody accused that of being fat at the time (or since). Okay this isn't going to have anything like 480 bhp, but it's going to be powerful and (relative to everything else in the sector) light and not hundreds of thousands of pounds. Get your point about weight distribution, but lets see... I guess the proof will be in the driving.robin wrote:It's definitely too heavy!

Much as I hate to say it, there was never any danger of Lotus producing a car in the 800KG bracket with a V6 and hundreds of horsepower
