Wow, Wow, Wow.........................
Popped round to see Andy today, told him would bring my camera to take a few photos, but only if he cleaned his bit of scaffolding on wheels so it looked good for the photos!!
As it turned out, we were both too hungover to care from previous nights birthday booze up, but took a few average shots in his drive way which i will post later!
Anyway, after washing was done it looked amazing, sat my arse into what was a very comfortable cabin, if you can call it that, loads of room, and very nice user friendly harnesses with a seat belt clip. I have to say i laughed at the pointless wing mirrors, almost an after thought, and as for the 'aero' screens they are verging on token, but according to Andy do help quite a bit with buffeting.
Having heard Andy talk about leaving most places sideways, he didn't disappoint in leaving his driveway on opposite look, with Vtec kicking in, we were at the end of Andy's road before i could open my eyes!
Now, I think pikey Paine Jnr swatched my beany back(no loss as i look a tw*t in a beany!), so i had no helmet, no hat, and no gloves, merely my Manifold jacket to keep me warm on a cold Saturday evening. Once at the traffic lights at the crossroads we must have provided some amusement to waiting motorists as we swung a right with the back end trailing wide as Andy flew threw the gears, the back end just struggled to grip in every gear. We were flying up Colinton road, cold air driving into your face, the noise of induction roar, and just the sheer sense of speed watching the wheels rotate, and every movement of the steering can be seen at your feet.
As we got onto the bypass heading for the A702 we flew past traffic like it was stationery, i just remember looking at a passenger in a car and she was mouth wide open, probably at the car, but also that we were out in nearly sub zero temperatures!
Leaving the bypass, for the 702, i braced myself, knowing that anything in our way was going to be dispatched with ease and not to mention rapidly! I was right, we came across two cars on the first uphill section, which to be fair we passed so quickly that i didn't get the chance to see what they were!
There was one moment, IIRC, where we came round a corner, Andy sunk the boot, the induction roared in my ear, Vtec kicked in and all of a sudden the back end thought things were going a bit too well and swung out! My arm went up in the air (god only knows why?!!) my heart missed a few beats, and I screamed like a little girl, but Andy dealt with it brilliantly by dialing in some opposite lock and correcting it, before grabbing the Atom by the scruff of the neck again, and hammering the loud pedal!
Doing a large number of Tuts along a straight, tears streaming out of my eyes, freezing as they hit my skin, I glanced over and again shreaked like a little girl before Andy turned round and said he wasn't aware we were going quite that fast! To be honest doing 70 tuts in the Atom feels like a hell of a lot more! The smile on Andy's face was priceless!
Anyway, i have done it again and written a smattering of too many words, when all i really wanted to say was Thanks again to Mr G, it is an amazing car, one i cannot see you getting bored of (well not until it is dry, and no doubt a trip to Englundshire will be in order for a Supercharger to be bolted on!) but it is an incredibly well sorted car, and easily the fastest car i have ever been in, which before that was Ed's moneypit! An Exhilarating experience!
Cheers G, i look forward to seeing it on track and getting some decent pictures of you getting lairy at the hairpin!
Dave
