I travel the A9 Perth - Dunblane section at least twice per week. I've never been overtaken since the speed cameras arrived, pushing on at a mighty 71mph on the GPS.
How much can you get away with before a NIP will be heading my way?
Interested to know how these cameras work with bikes too, it'll be spring soon, I'll be back on the bike and trying not to get a ticket.

That section is dualled so 70 limit. At a guess, a GPS reading of 75 will still leave a margin before any tickets.

Why not play chicken with 1mph increments each week? Let us know how you get on ;-)

Sounds like a plan.

Going back to the very first post, the 1st Camera is at the Keir roundabout and the 2nd is before the first junction off to Doune only about 3/4 of a mile up the road and just over the hill and they seem to be just before or after every junction all the damn way. Part of my 'test track' for any car or when giving a pax ride to somebody was that bit of road at full chat up the hill and peel of at Doune exit and show how good the brakes are on the slip as it faces a steel barrier and disconcerting for a pax and back into Dunblane. Dirty rotten scoundrels I say. Or words to that effect.........

I have done a few journeys to/from Perth in the Evora at a true 73'ish (indicated 75 on winter wheel tyre combo) on cruise control and haven't touch wood had anything and now too late I think. Also saw nothing even close to me in speed as most people seem to sit at 65 on speedo now. Why? Certainly had an effect in slowing average speed down. I just hope the road to Aberdeen stays as Gatso or I'm dead meat.

On the subject of anybody knowing anybody who has been done I asked that question of my 2 mates in Ayr with their section just before Ayr on the A77 and exactly the same. Nobody actually knew anybody even 2nd hand story. Years ago when they were putting in 2 new flyover type junctions on the Perth/Dundee road they used average speed cameras for the duration of the build and then removed them. According to my mate who was in Traffic in Central Region they were never connected as too difficult in a major building site but it didn't matter as they had totally the desired effect. I wonder how many other schemes are the same?

The rumour is only 2 sets at a time are connected on the A77. Apparently the cost of checking all the hits was prohibitive. Only a rumour mind. I have no facts to back it up.

There's a hobby bobby in our office that says the ones on the A9 are only on occasionally due to costs.
Heard this secondhand, I'll quiz him next week if I see him.

I'm going up to inverness on sat, likely to be the last time in the evora for a while. I don't mind av cameras going up but there and back will make me want to kill myself.

As such i'm thinking about going via the ski centres and have a bit of fun......google says it's 20 miles further but i reckon their time allocation of 4 hours and 50 mins is some way off

Before i risk suggesting it to my heavily pregnant wife can someone verify that it's probably only 20-30 mins longer than the a9 ?

Cheers in advance :thumbsup

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

Martin you could cut the Perth corner off off leaving the A9 to Crief then via Sma Glen to Aberfeldy and back on A9. Its an excellent drive prior to the long A9 bimble.

Brain fart yesterday just after the Keir so 14 days to wait. (first camera challenge  )

Martin, you got cruise? A9 is not as bad as you might think. Calibrate your speedo for GPS-based 65 and 75, and enjoy a brand new kind of challenge :-)

Alternatively, Loch Lomond, Crianlarich, Rannoch Moor, Ft William, Spean Br, Loch Laggan, Dalwhinnie, Inverness.

Agree with McKean re southern part of Glenshee. Will also be slow and busy.
