Erm, no. My point is that asking "which is best" is pointless and it's constantly argued on selcoc and there's no answer that anyone else can give you. It's purely personal opinion and nobody is right or wrong so if you want an answer, the only way to get it is tro drive each variation yourself.
So, the question should be "what do you prefer"...

It's a good wee debate though - difference being, we tend to know what you've just said and it doesn't become a sh*tfest like the SELC*CK threads, because we know that 8)

I'm sure Phil isn't actually asking everyone to tell him what to buy - it's a debate. That's one of the cool things about SE - 9 times out of 10, debates are just that - they don't descend into slanging matches (unless me & mckeann are involved ;) )

I have not posted on this yet, so will throw my opinions into the mix.

I have had an S1 and now the S2 Exige.

I can see why you would compare an early S2 at 12k with an S1 at 10k as they are in the same price bracket, but other than that its pointless.

When I got my S1 I couldnt have added an extra 50% to my purchase and got an s2 111s. So, the S1 was the best lotus variant (as it was the only one in budget).

I think the s2 exige is better in every department than my S1 was - but then it should be as it was 2.5 times the cost of the S1.

The S1 looks old now, but still better than similar cars introduced in 1996 - an MX5 or MR2 of that era looks more dated than an S1 does, it wears well.

edited to add - if I was to go on a cost-cutting mission (like I thought I might have had to a couple of months ago) I would not hesitate in buying another S1. £ FOR £ nothing can touch it. (all in my opinion etc etc)

I asked myself (and everyone on here, several times) the same question when researching mine.
In the end the easier day to day runnning of the S2 was the obvious choice for me. As it was my daily driver and also going to be used visiting sites for work I couldnt really afford to take the gamble on an older and potentially less reliable S1.

If I had the money to run two cars then I would like to get an S1 Exige with a week day shopping trolley to keep the miles down.

My ideal would be my old S1 Elise (prefer shape and taking roof off) with all my S2 Exige mechanicals, suspension, tyres, etc. installed in it.

If you want to look cool, and drive around with the roof off, shades on. Large breasted bird in passenger seat. (Or bloke with six pack for Mags or Mandy..)
Then an S2 is the one to go for, the interior is much better. (not really up for debate) the roof can be fitted quicker (not really up for debate) and the big wheels are more bling bling...

If you want to be considered a real man then buy an S1 Exige. (cue Uldis fan club) Noisy, no silly plastic vent bits and all brute agresion.

The S1 Elise is for those sort of in the middle.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

aye, its not me looking for advice at all :)
It is just a debate :)
So many times we talk about s1 or s2 and someone comes in saying "S1" or "S2" ;)

ive never driven a s1. Have sat in a couple.

Looks wise, i like bits of both! :D

i wondered when someone would say "the perfect elise is this one coz its got the right suspension, right wheels and right tyres, and its no that heavy"
;)

think i said to someone at the hill climb that i think an elise is an elise.
They all have different things that are better than the other - but when u drive one u know ur driving an elise ;)

I think the Exige S1 is sooooo sexy! the tuned K series makes me nervous, but ive watched the in car clips on an exige around the 'ring sooo many times!

Having not had one for just over a week, i really miss it...
When i first looked for actually buying the elise (looking for over 6 years, saving) I specced one that would be ideal to me at that time. And i would still love it if i had it now (dunno if its repairable yet or not!). But I found that over time i didnt give a hoot about rattles or the finish of the paint - it was always the driving that brought the smile to my face. I get sore heads, and lots of times ive gone for a drive and found my headache gone! Loved looking forward to a longer drive on the way home, or at the weekend. Even more loved the top off - winter, summer, raining, at night, anytime! Kept 2 hats and a spare jacket in the boot ;)

This may sound strange, but when I was reading about the EVO long term S2 Exige every month I wanted one really bad. Now they have sold it, I could take it or leave it. Not fussy about them now.

Given the money - There's only one variaint I would have.

S1 exige. (or motorsport elise but that's splitting hairs)

Nothing comes close for me.
