ps forgot to mention the comment that Sanjoy made reference an Outlook .pst file.

There have been just over 100,000 posts since the beginning of of S_E1 in 1999, and I have over 90,000 of them in my Outlook.pst file, now over 2gb in size. Some were lost during a crash, but most are there. I have the file backed up every couple of days on a DVD, so if anybody would like it for reference, then feel free.

tut,

Great to hear from you again!

I guess I'm not sure exactly what kind of stats I was seeking, maybe just an indication of how the activity has changed, by whom, what frequency, etc. Purely for idle curiosity, so don't be going to a lot of trouble!

Shug - great to hear that further developments are under investigation, I think a defining point about the BBS is that very fact...those behind it are prepared to listen to members and look into continual change. That's the key, really, isn't it!

I seem to remember when Tut last posted stats on SE1 that Shug was the clear leader for posts. I think I was in 3rd place, probably behind Mr Thomas <BG>

Here's the very post:

Just did a check on the top ten posters for this year, which showed that tis time to get a life, ie going to crack a bottle of bubbly with Verian and lie out in the sun for a couple of hours to get rid of this hospital pallor.

Well done Simon, thought that I was the only one that was sad enough to be able to get stats like that from my hard drive.

Tut - 1264
Shug - 419
Iain T - 386
Me - 165 (might be a bit more as I think I deleted some that I posted)
Gareth - 247
Ali - 340
Robin - 437
Stu - 323
Graeme F - 111
Obi (Lawrence) - 257

That's just searching on the list from last year, Yahoo mail won't let me do much more than that.

Yay. I personally (even when about to leave the area!) would welcome a meeting of the groups, they seem to be fairly exclusive when it somes to events even whan cross posted at the mo.

It would seem that even like minded people will forever be divided by their medium of choice, be it Yahoo or php.... such a shame.

SE [in any form] forever!

I think the division is actually reducing steadily...to check who has now "arrived" from the SE1 community, the Poll question might be simply...
  • "If you used to post to the SE Yahoo Group, do you...

1 - post on the BBS forum in similar volumes now instead?
2 - post more on the BBS than on Yahoo?
3 - post less on the BBS than on Yahoo?"
So I've gone and created it :-) ...

http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... 6824#36824

I already placed something roughly similar on the Yahoo group to identify figures for those who have not yet "crossed over" ;-) 12 responses to date:
  • "Quick poll to identify usage of the BBS by Yahoogroup community (if any!!)...Will leave open for 30 days to try for representative sample. When did you last post to the SE BBS (http://www.scottishelises.com)? During...

    - Last week [10 votes, 83%]
    - Last month [1 vote, 8%]
    - Last year [0, 0%]
    - Never [1 vote, 8%]"
I think that's pretty encouraging. :-)

Rich

I really do not think that their is a division anymore, certainly not from the SE1 side.

Nearly all the founder members now post on here, Robin, Campbell, Del, Lawrence, Kelvin, so I think we are quite happy to let things run their course.
