Its a fecking lifeboat why the fcuk can't they call it a fcuk lifeboat because that doesn't sound big and clever so we call it a TEMPSC they probably had weeks of meeting to decide that.

Reminds me of a wee story from work

We had something turn up in the cargo filters which is a big deal. When asked what it was the cargo engineer replied it was TBS. This then got forwarded to the office who then replied about the TBS that we were to investigate the TBS. The TBS problem also got sent to the japan office who wanted to monitor the TBS situation. They had a meeting about TBS and about a week later someone piped up and asked "What is TBS?"

Thick Black Sh*t was the answer

So TBS had been banded about by all these fecking experts who all pretended to know exactly what it was when it was in reality it was a made up acronym from the ship.

Acronyms . . . don't get me started . . . I work in Telecoms, where people have multiple meanings for the same acronym!

I had a great one recently where a company decided to call a system that processes CPS (Carrier Pre-Selection) orders the "Contract Provisioning System" . . . Yup! They've got a system called CPS that processes CPS orders but the acronym means two different things! :rage

The thing about my industry is that so many people use acronyms when they don't even know what they mean. I always make a point of asking them what they mean and they never know!

Dezzy perhaps one of the best examples of using an acronym and not thinking about it would be the office where you are currently working. They really should have checked it out before picking that name I think
