So did your instructor take the reg of the Audi and report him to the cops for his driving antics? ...guess it's easier to keep one's head down.

Surely an opportunity Noops ;-)

(but head down and get fresh license in the bag is perhaps more productive)

I agree campbell on both counts ,,, however, I'm far more intrested in getting back a fresh licance and thats far more important than some tool in a unmarked Audi  , I'm sure his day will come. Driving like that will have consequences.... ,however I coulden't resist telling what I encountered as a follow up to the origanal post.

And yes I did check my blind spots rossybee :thumbsup I have been taught advanced driving throughout my all my lessons :thumbsup

I've had all year to think about concequences of 109 Dom, however I'm more enthused by my instructors feedback as thankfully she sees' a hugh change in my driving since my first lesson .

Perhaps a lesson to some other on here  , that a little advanced course would help, as it has helped me to Rethink my driving . Around Observation , Attatude to other drivers, more precise driving an no speed involved etc etc.

My instructor asked how I felt as someone who had been driving for 28 + years being put back through all this again, I replyed by saying its all part of the humilliation process, caught ,fined, banned, test resit, however back to driving on L-plates is probably the worst of all:|

Having a dose of the L-plates helps focus on you getting things in the right order, as I've found out .... driving as per test requirment all day everyday as I have been over the last few days takes quite a bit of concentration, however you find you treated like a second class citizen on the road.

The driver behind doesn';t know I have been driving for years , they just see L-plates and assume L- driver....ie bloody nusance  I was overtaken my a woman on a blind corner in the 30 mph limit in Haddington yesterday :| however its nice going about picking up everone elses mistakes.

As my instuctor says let em overtake you and take their bad driving somewhere else away from you.. :thumbsup

There is free training out there for anyone that wants it.

http://www.roadar.org/drivers/index.htm

http://www.roadar.org/groups/scotland/index.htm

http://www.iam.org.uk/the_advanced_prog ... rlife.html

As both these courses are based on Roadcraft, which is based on the Police method of Driving, many people are suprised that you are encouraged to and expected to "make progress" where safe to. (within legal limits of course. :D )

At long last the final post and thoughts on this one by me anyway...,

As posted elsewhere someone was good enough to let me back on the road today and I thanked him for that :thumbsup .

A year and a few days is a long time without the means to drive to someone like me  . It has not been easy as you can imagine being whipped off the road after driving for 28 years....and for Mags a bloody nightmair to put it mildly.

At first you go through the rollercoaster of emotions with anger, dejection, feeling fairly inhibited in how you can function day to day... and helping others out with carting everyone and everything around ,,suddenly that comes to a halt :( .

I've had to learn to be a little more patient with those around helping me out....SORRY :thumbsup as the world does not always revolve around me.... Having to really think hard about logistics fitting things in with Mags shifts or Neil Jr driving me about( I will miss him but not his driving :blackeye  ) Has made life frantic at times.

As you become used to life without the wheels ....then life seems to grind on counting the day's off then the months and having a little feedback from SE and others helps get you through.

Over the year I've had time to look out the window  even in East Lothian I've seen things I haden't noticed before... :?: usally been able to relax ...most days with a driver I could answer the fone, do bookwork get through some jobs quicker and generally kick back and relax.

As the days tick by you become used to life and you just get on with it ..go with the flow carma......sometimes things don't to plan but Mags and Neil jr were the drivers and could leave me in the lurch just for a laugh ... :thumbsup .

The last few weeks you become a little more exited about sending away for new licances, insurance etc and suddenly you realise that the months have ticked by and your ready to join back the driving rat race  .

The last week has been informitive and I thanked my instructor ( and no cambell what ever you are thinking I did not....) for all her help it certainly paid off

I would like also to thank all you guys on SE for all your kind support and banter over the last year :thumbsup :thumbsup Its has helped me keep sane ( well for Noops .. ) with what folk were up too. :thumbsup

I would like to thank Neil Jr for all his help :thumbsup

This line should really be to thank Mags for just helping to make it all work and for putting up with me on those days that I was'nt quite feeling up to it :knob . How you managed to do your work and help me every day I will never know, you and are just wonderfull and I really can't thank you enoughfor what you have done this year :thumbsup

Lastly, I hope this thread over the last year as at least made others think before they put the foot down in rather a inappropriate manner..... :?: :?: its not the amount of Horse Power you have  its actually the way you use it  , if this can happen to me it could happen to any of us so be carefull out there.

Cheers for reading

Thanks again

Neil

Well done Neil :thumbsup

Your posts, along with the 'recent road run' event have certainly focused my thoughts to get some advanced tuition. I don't consider that I am a bad driver (who does), and I will still want to 'make significant progress' on the tight & twisty's, but there will be things that the guys at IAM etc will be able to make that safer.

Years ago when working for Johnson & Johnson Medical, they insisted on all employees driving company cars went on a 4hr 'Drive n Survive' course - they didn't bother to much about speed but assessed the driving standard .... whilst overtaking in the slug of a Cavalier, I couldn't pull in quick enough before the solid white line. I only clipped with 2 wheels and though should have been ok, but that act would have cost me 3 points if the rozzers had seen it

Seriously thinking this could be a great 2012 challenge for all SE members to be IAM trained ??

Here's a thought, once completed . can I have following after my name . . . "I AM certified" Wife says I've been that for years  (or I should have been years ago !)

LOL, Ian, just checked the time of your post and you ARE the new Noops !!

Actually, a good read and application of Roadcraft works wonders in its own right. But I agree the IAM thing seems really worthwhile. I could be talked into that as a 2012 Resolution.
