From Exiges.com:

"If you spoke to Lotus "Sport" you may get a different answer....

I've been for a ride in a car thus chipped and I thought it was great. The exhaust had been changed to a Janspeed set up (manifold/cat/tailbox). It went like a steam train through the midrange and I couldn't detect the change. I keep meaning to get mine done but I doing all the same mods to another vehicle in the corbishley family garage... "

and:

"I spoke to Lotus Sport about this last month after the rumours about Brooke Kensington installing modified ECUs.

They said they had a few different ECU programs running in customer's track biased cars for evaluation and were hoping to offer something to a wider audience later in the year.

Then mentioned sending the ECU to them for the change, so I assumed it was a reflash, although it may have been a replacement.

There were no plans for a custom mappable ECU, although they may offer an ECU mapped specifically for the Janspeed Manifold and appropriate exhaust."

Dan,
How do the Piper cams work if you can't modify the ECU? What benefit do they give? I always thought that the reason Piper never made cams for the VVC engine was because there was not an Emerald or equivalent available to control them. Is this not the same scenario? By the way, I know nothing so I'm not arguing, just curious :)

I fitted some to a customer's S2 Exige and it makes a massive difference to the mid-range. The first cam is more aggressive so there is more torque available further down the rev range. This effectivley creates a power band between 3500 and 8000 insted of 6200 and 8000.

Its going on the rollers tomorrow to check the fuelling just to make sure the ECU can cope but no signs of it running lean yet.

The idle is a little lumpy but no signs of it stalling. This is to be expected from any engine running 285 duration cams on a plenum setup. I actually quite like the lumpy idle. Its what an Exige should be like.

I'll post the results of the dyno run tomorrow. Not really interested in headline figures as they are pretty meaningless, just the torque curve and the AFR.

Think I'll be going for the reflash - just trying to find out if this will be available from dealers or whether the ecu has to go to Lotus Sport or Plans

I am sure someone is about to jump in and point out that this is a lot for a reflash, which it is, but I reckon it is not very much at all considering what a huge improvement lowering the cam change to 5k is going to be.

£395 is a fcuk ridiculous price for a reflash, especially considering that it should have been a free update from a dealership. If I buy hardware or software, I don’t have to pay again for each driver update or patch so why should I pay for this? I've read that you also have to send your ECU to Lotus Motorsport to get it done.

That said, the difference I think it’d make to the drivability of the car will probably see me doing this in the future if no other alternative turns up
