I agree with the fact that only the aggrieved submit reviews.

So for balance I've been with Scottish Power for years and run my account online. Never had any issues with payments aside from them occasionally wanting to reduce my payment even when I'm happy paying a little extra to cover the winter months and ensure I'm in credit so I go through the cycle of submitting meter readings, them reducing my payment and me increasing it again to where it was.

They also continually offer new deals. The last time they said they had a new deal that would save me money; now my existing deal ends in January and the deal they were offering was more expensive than it so when I read the small print they work out that it would be cheaper when I'm on a standard tariff which is obvious but it was definitely not cheaper than the existing deal I was on. So being cynical they were trying to get me off a cheaper deal early and on to a higher rate (that was better than a bog standard tariff), why can't they just be honest instead of smoke and mirrors?

Anybody heard of http://www.extraenergy.com? Just did a comparison and they are quoting me a saving of £967/annum on my present usage until Jan 2017 with a £25 exit charge. 9.1p/kWh and 23.8p/day compared to 13.1p and 23.5p/day with no exit charge from SP.

Can see no need for not changing over, have no info on Customer Service but by all accounts it does not have much to live up to.

As you've already seen, avoid extra energy. I signed up, waited 3 months and they still hadn't moved my account. I think they just got totally swamped and couldn't cope. I called up, cancelled and they let me go. Wasted 3 months, but didn't lose anything. Since then I look at the price AND customer service rating!

Moved to Green Star, another smallish provider, and they've been OK if not particularly good at communication.

Just about to change over to GB Energy who are 2.7p/unit less than SP and the same SC, so around £600/year saving. You seem to have had a good experience Kerry, though my unit rate would be higher than yours at 10.02 with 23.4SC.

I didn't have the bottle to go with GB energy but have just switched to EDF which is a couple of hundred a year cheaper.

Well their business model seems simple enough, minimum advertising, efficient online system resulting in lower rates. They didn't come up on comparison websites when I did my original search because they weren't prepared to pay for it. They weren't demanding a long term contract, there is no tie in or cancellation penalty, so if they have to perform to build their business. All makes sense to me, I just hope they don't get too successful and lose the benefit of being a slick operation.

Funnily enough this came up with my neighbour yesterday, who thought he had a great deal with EON. We did a quick comparison off his last bill and he could be saving £600 a year which is 4 months electric. The bigger companies must have long term supply agreements which make it more difficult to compete - funny market to figure out.

All done and dusted, did it all by phone as opposed to online as I was talking to a delightful Welsh lassie called Amber with Customer Service and friendliness as good as you could wish for. Of course I do have a way with the ladies.

Yes plus VAT.

Also just ordered oil 29.9p/l + vat from Rix with non urgent delivery. I didn't shop around so there may be cheaper, but it's the best price for many years. I do recall 8p/l when I got the first tank installed 1992.

8p/l also when we bought TT in '95. Paid a high of 70p on that Xmas think it was 2011, and some suppliers were charging £1.

Last time that it was 29p was 2004.

Why is you electricity usage high as there are just the two of you, your heating and cooking is gas, and I can not believe that you use the dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier as much as Verian, the bloody things are on every day? You have a big house as we did at TT, but apart from the above there is only lighting which is peanuts nowadays compared to the rest.

No idea to be honest. No real time to analyse. I was surprised - maybe somebody has tapped into my electricity from next door

i just spent 2 minutes on the GB energy website and i can save £230 per year.

We only have electric ( and a wood burner) and are using approx 800 Kw per month.

How are you getting on with GB Energy?

Our Scottish Power Tariff is due to expire the end of the month and thinking of changing to GB Energy. After the reviews of Extra Energy I would probably prefer to go for a known quantity if possible?

The quote for GB Energy is £100/month (use approx 11,500 Kw per year) whereas Scottish Power would be charging us £130/month.

I've switched mine to EDF on 14th December and it's going through fairly quickly. New account started as of 4th Jan.

We switched (back) to First Utility and it was utterly painless. Naive as it sounds, I had no idea some weren't on the comparison sites - I'll remember next time.

Just had an e-mail George that the DirDeb starts today. The saving is £550/annum with the same kW usage.
