I was only doing it for the free electricity Mike, I reckoned a 11kW turbine would just about cover it as I have an energy meter and it has never gone above 8kW/hr and it normally trundles along around 0.7. If they are going to put one in anywhere near that size, the bigger the better for them, then it would be a nice little earner for us as well.

My figures come out around the same as yours, but I presume that your knots are meant to be m/s. 6 knots is only 3m/s.

Gents,

It's kWh not kW/h.

kWh is a unit of energy

kW is a unit of power

kW/h is a unit of rate of change of power over time and generally does not describe anything real world that I can think of.

I agree that it would be worth getting heads of terms from a second provider to take a look.

Remember that the source of this free money is ultimately the government/energy bill payers - the current government are not in favour of paying these subsidies and I know they have already changed some of the rules - I don't pay attention to the details - so, you need to be sure that 5/10 years from now this thing will still be worth having should, for example, all feed in tariffs be scrapped (i.e. you only get the wholesale energy price for what you feed in) and also that there is no situation in which it can cost you money should the subsidies drop/energy output be much lower than expected.

Nothing in the terms above suggests it could ever cost you, which is good.

Cheers,
Robin

Will go through it in stages Robin:-

1) Acceptance of the form that I have just sent in.
2) Council planning permission.
3) If granted the size of the WT
4) Survey including whether their installation lorry and crane can handle the track.
5) If it is a goer I will get a Solicitor to go through the terms and conditions, especially regarding what the next thirty years entails and if there are any penalties involved if their income becomes non profitable. I expect there will be a much more comprehensive tome of Terms and Conditions to sign before they/I commit.
6) They have installed hundreds so all of this should be clearly laid out.

Tut
Be wary of how this impacts on any future sale of the property. It may be that you require their consent, which they may withhold and it is likely that you would be liable for any costs that they may incur

On my list Stephen, I would assume at this stage that the agreement would carry on with the new owners as long as they agreed to it, and that would be written into the sale conditions, if not then I expect that I would have to pay any penalties as per Sky or a phone contract. Should not make any difference to VG Energy as long as the buyer signed a take over contract.

Obviously 30 years is way beyond what my own contract will be with Himself, but we are not going to worry about that at our time of life. However I can not imagine an intelligent buyer in the future having a WT dismantled from which they could benefit from free electricity and £KKKK's income anymore than they would rip the GSHP out and replace it with an oil boiler and the underfloor heating with radiators. However as we know, there's nowt so queer as folks.

A member from the Green Party would be the ideal candidate, preferably owning an electric car.

Agreed. Just be careful in case you require their permission to sell. They could block the sale causing you a problem.

Or you could sell the house and keep the land that the turbine is sitting on retaining any right of access and the rental income which would certainly offset any impact on the sale price.
