Slide rule ... never used one .... we did have log tables at school, but calculators were already in vogue and so no need to use them . My first calculator was a TI 50-something (55, 57?) programmable calculator. It was also awesome, but in a different way from the sheer madness of the fixed-point reverse-polish Sinclair ... If you knew what you were doing you could flick the power switch on/off fast enough to glitch the "cpu" in the calculator and get into the "hidden" memory
Tut, that watch was naff in the 70's, just as it is now (though the smartphone boys seem to think these things are cool once more ... they are wrong).
Cheers,
Robin

No, it wasn't around when I went to school either.
Came a bit later after someone buggered a monkey or something.
Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow ...

It came on the scene (remember the "Don't Die of Ignorance" ads?) towards the end of my secondary schooling...
Why isn't it still as heavily publicised?
Seems the focus is on less serious (but undoubtedly more prevalent) STDs

We learnt to use log tables before moving on to calculators.
The calcs of choice were either a Texas Ti30 (IIRC) or Casio 'whatever'. The Texas being the school's recommended. After writing 60436034, 5318008, 7730017, etc... I remember we had 69 factorial (69
!) races - and the Texas took some 6s whereas the Casios about 1s.
Us kids were easily entertained in the early 80s!

Unbelievable
"I phoned Camelot and they fobbed me off with some story that -6 is higher - not lower - than -8 but I'm not having it.
Even funnier that the woman in the shop was as thick as she thought she had won too
