Slightly off topic to talk about boat fuel but the landy uses lots! What have you heard dom?Dominic wrote:I have been reliably informed to avoid all supermarket deisel.flyingscot68 wrote:I nearly filled up with the nitro+ the other day.
After reading this I'm not going to bother. Evora runs very nicely on the 'normal' stuff. The only fuel I avoid is Morrisons. I've heard a few taxi boys having problems with their diesel.

Shell V-Power Nitro+ - Cold Starts

Re: Shell V-Power Nitro+ - Cold Starts
The supermarket stuff (deisel not petrol) has a lot more bio fuel added, which helps lower the cost, but potentially not so kind to your engine / fuel pump etc. Also, will not have same additives as the shell / bp / esso etc. My friendly mechanic told me that one of his fleet operators went from supermarket to shell and saw an improvement across the fleet in mpg.
Re: Shell V-Power Nitro+ - Cold Starts
Thanks Dom. Noted given how potentially expensive landy fixes are!

That's the Tesco 10p off voucher torn up then
Although I could stick it in the Elise or the MINI and neither would care!

Well here's a 5p off a litre voucher for any Shell fuel that can be used until the 28th.

I'll have it for the mighty Passat which has been run on Tesco for at least 120k of the 145k it has now managed. The points come in handy at Xmas time for kids toys.campbell wrote:That's the Tesco 10p off voucher torn up then

Biofuel is good and much cleaner than diesel; was even considering making my own at one point.
Re: Shell V-Power Nitro+ - Cold Starts
I'll take it, bit of tape should sort it - the Evora doesn't like the Shell and I've had zero issues on T99, not to mention my A4 has now done 175K miles and has run on Tesco fuel for a lot of that time.campbell wrote:That's the Tesco 10p off voucher torn up then

Another tesco regular - the vulva* has no complaints on their derv and just saved a fiver on a tankful the other day, I have a choice of three tescos nearby, wheras the nearest shell station is a shiithole (next to fat sams)
*the vulva will be for sale soon, so if you know anyone who'd like a well cared-for one at a keen price, just give me a shout. Comes with lots and lots of electric toys!

True for a standard car but it should be pointed out that if you car is running an aftermarket ECU and has been remapped on the rolling road then it really should be ran on the fuel it was mapped to. If it was mapped on 98RON then it should be run on 98RON; or above. Dropping down to 95RON could give predetonation issues.campbell wrote:Unless your Elise has a knock sensor or similar, anything above 95RON is utterly pointless and a waste of your money. According to our tame local chemist - McKean (who works in the fuel business...).
So for S1s, it's only an expensive detergent really
Re: Shell V-Power Nitro+ - Cold Starts
Yep I actually found Tesco 99 worked better in the Evo than V-Power. They use ethanol to up the octane (i think) and when you could buy ethanol E85 at Morrisons I was using that as an octane booster for European trackdays.SAJ wrote:I'll take it, bit of tape should sort it - the Evora doesn't like the Shell and I've had zero issues on T99, not to mention my A4 has now done 175K miles and has run on Tesco fuel for a lot of that time.campbell wrote:That's the Tesco 10p off voucher torn up then

So it's a fair point, Gregor, yes.
Sport 160s have some unusual ECU (for an Elise...Rover EFI or something?) but I still doubt those have a knock sensor, and I also believe they are non-programmable.

Hee hee, nope, I'm keeping it really! It was just the diesel warning I was referring to. And BigD seems happy enough even with thatSAJ wrote:I'll take it, bit of tape should sort it - the Evora doesn't like the Shell and I've had zero issues on T99, not to mention my A4 has now done 175K miles and has run on Tesco fuel for a lot of that time.campbell wrote:That's the Tesco 10p off voucher torn up then

There is a big warning sticker on our Octavia filler cap though, ruling out biodiesel.

Here's another old wives tale to add to the mix, BP Ultimate is dreadful in RB320s.
In truth i aint used supermarket fuels in performance (term used loosely for the haters) cars for years.

So for S1s, it's only an expensive detergent really...but I guess Emeralds might not have one of them but can of course still be mapped to use the 98RON fuel's capabilities?

S1s have a Rover mems ecu. SVA 160ies a Gems ecu and WVTA 160ies an Efi technologies ecu. But no knock sensor in any of them.

Er, I thought I did pretty well there?! I even had a hunch that one batch had a different type to the other
