Suppose I'm quite fortunate - Had the Elan SE at 22, and the Elise / raced a Caterham a few years later.

Target was a brand new 911 by 30 - Irrational, I know.

Went as far as test driving a 997 C2S back in late 2004 - And spec'd one up / sorted finance. (Was going to collect from Stuttgart with my old man - Good father / son adventure).

Life took a few twists & turns around that point, and I now find myself living in London with a knackered old MX5 - No goals / dream cars on the horizon.

Funny when something's been your focus for most of your life, and doesn't seem to matter any more.

(Still fancy a nice S1 at some point over the next couple of years - Maybe with the 135 kit & CR box and LSS, but nothing more  ).

Aye... very cheeky :)

S2 Elise specifically for me. Never really fell in love with the S1 styling at all.

You're perfectly entitled to your own opinion, but gaunnae no' put my name to it!

Suspension components and condition are as good as it gets, so after its geo with Willie next week it will be 2-11 dicking time again.

There has to be something not quite right, or you've changed cars. :D

So lets see - Are all the tyres the same, any wobbly wheels, brake disks, brake pads :)

Anyway it never seems to matter you always soldier on regardless, so the S1 honda ultimate car fro scotland statment still seems valid.

We used to go down there at lunchtime from the academy and drool at the cars, (previous to the proper garage in harlaw they used to have an old place we went to somewhere near to benzies bike shop off the high street, where they prepped a super stock for crimond) happy days. Always had a love for the early 911 turbo too but still not owned one yet.

I only knew them at the Harlaw garage and seems like I spent a lot of time there pondering over the size of the wheels on a esprit........they were huge maybe at least 15" and 225 wide! Jim was really into his motorsport, still bump into him now and then. The last time he was piloting the BMI London flight.

New R1R's on the rear Kerry with 48R's on the front, Hoffman's spec Nitrons, all wishbones and suspension components shot blasted and powder coated, new nuts and bolts all round, new Nylatron wishbone bushes, new ball joints, new wheel bearings, MMC discs with new pads, wheels fully refurbished, buckled one ditched.

One set of new original five spoke wheels as spares and just bought another set complete with new tyres for £295, spotted them as soon as they appeared on SELOC. Must be Khama as they are in Carlisle, 1000 metres from the M6 which Verian will be passing on her way home on Saturday.

Mind you after the geo I probably will not be able to handle it, or it will not be as much fun.

Aaaaaah, 456.

In my book, one of the most beautiful creations ever on 4 wheels. classic, balanced lines, helped along by the fact all my favourite Ferraris have 4 seats (400/412/612) which gives a dose of useability for a family man like me. If I ever own a prancing cuddy, it'll be a 456, without doubt.

It all started back in 1994 when a local (in)famous property developer (who my old man knows well, and had various hotties such as 348/XJ220/550/Bentley Conti T) got one in pearlescent powder blue which I clearly remember having fun with in my Integrale, windows down to hear the V12. Boy I got the penis tingle that day  8)

He unfortunately got the door ripped off outside Visocchi's in Broughty Ferry by a passing car  :(

Tut - totally agree ref the manual box - a must-have in my book, and I hate you for posting that link

I was always a a massive fan of the Elise and had set it in my head that I'd get one by the time I was 25. I think I managed it a few weeks before my 25th birthday. I had set a similiar goal for owning a 355 by the time I was 30... it was looking unlikely but an opportuinity arose and I just went for it. I'm not well known for being sensible however :)

When I had the 993 as my daily driver everyone thought I was a bit crazy and thought I would be bankrupt at the end of it. In the end it cost me maybe a £2k or £3k over the two years and a bit years that I owned it but I traded it for £6k more than I paid for it! I may have about broken even if you take into a ccount the discount/margin the dealer accounted for.

I've owned the 355 for nearly a year and apart from a suspension warning light scare (cost £30 to fix, with the magic of the internet) the only expense has been a cambelt service which I had done at MP Supercars (ex Graypaul guys) it cost me £1300. That's it so far. It's easily the best car I've ever owned and never dissapoints. It may not have the 500bhp of today's supercars but It feels fast, sounds fast and looks fast. It's plenty for me.

Too many people worry about not being able to afford to but I think the real worry should be can you afford not to?

Do it Mark! :)

p.s. I'll be buying a copy of F1 2011, that's one gauranteed sale so you have no excuse!

Forgot to mention that it was a CAT C, but what the fcuk, probably been repaired properly, look on it as a buy to keep, I just do not equate with this mentality of acquisition then sell after a few months, but then I am probably too easy satisfied and only have to use my car for pure driving pleasure.
