On her drug abuse.........in my opinion it is often the most gifted musicians are the most troubled mentally, which is both the source of their gift and ultimately their downfall.
I have first hand experience of watching an ageing rock star trying desperately to relive the highs of his career in the 70's and I can totally understand why so many turn to drugs.
....but at the same time i have first hand experience of someone close to me having their own personal struggle with drugs. They aren't a celeb but they still have insecurities and troubles and turned to drugs to try and help them get some balance and achieve some for of clarity in their life. Is it the right thing to do? No of course not. Should we chastise this person for their failings? Well we can if we want but where do we stop? Do we single out cheaters or commitment-phobes and hurl the same abuse at them for being weak willed? What about those who have never left their home town? What about those who never went for that job interview cos they were so nervous? Where do you stop?
It's very easy to be judgemental about those who's weaknesses are more obvious than ours, but i think it would be a foolish person who could stand up and say they could deal with the fame and the fortune and come out of the other end a balanced and rational person. I personally view it as good luck more than good judgement that i haven't sought solace in substances during the darker times....and that's without the pressure of fame and fortune.
I think the world would be a better place if we were more understanding instead of being judgemental.
