On the plus side - all these people driving at 50 will make them a bit easier to pass.

If only - there will be a queue a mile long of cars bumper to bumper oblivious to what is going on around them, and if you do have the tenacity to dare to pass you will be at best branded a nutter, or more likely any gap there was will be closed up to stop you pulling back in

Overtaking these days seems to be the work of the devil

That and they'll disappear into the distance when you're in a 30 MPH limit as they stick to 45 everywhere.

Irespective of the increased accident risk doing so in a 30

Meddling bast***ds. When will they get the message that UK citizens (not consumers) are, on the whole independent minded and free spirited and would much rather the Govt focussed its collective efforts on something worthwhile rather than posturing for politocal points like this?

Mind you could this be a thinly veiled attempt to kick start the economy by subsidising road sign manufacturers and installers? Anyone want to start a sign company?

Reduce speed limit to 50 in an effort to reduce accidents (allegedly) THEN turn off motorway lights at night which they admit will increase accident rates - (but will save energy so who cares !!!).

http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArtic ... rs/238757/

For me the disregard for concern over increased accident rates on motorways only confirms that the 50mph limit is not about saving lives, but yet again to pander to the green lobby and raise cash from increased number of speeding fines.

Road safety doesn't matter - saving energy obviously does.
