Shame about the gearbox though.
ETA: and maybe the depreciation.

Its difficult to pin point a car as there are many criteria such as the price, depreciation, new /second hand, reliability, build quality and personal preference.
Assuming its going to be your secondary car and you want something sporty, I would go for a newer Ferrari. I may be bias but the 360 is a really nice car to drive slow, fast, in or out of towns. As you won't be tracking the car, it should not cost too much to maintain or need any modifications. Nice ones are getting very cheap so you don't have to worry too much about the depreciation too (relatively speaking). The only down side is you get too much attention. If you don't mind, I'd consider it. I prefer the stick but paddle box is much improved upon the 355's (drive by wire).

I think the DB9 is absolutely drop dead gorgeous
I guess it does have a bit of an old man image, but then so does the 911 (GT3 and RS excluded of course). I read somewhere that the average 911 buyer in the UK is over 50, and you just have to look at how many are ordered with an automatic box (over 50% IIRC) to realise many are bought for all the wrong reasons. I guess there aren't too many sub 40 year olds around who can afford new Astons or Porsches.

Did someone say 575? The car looked good in 1996...
I've heard that the 360 is a very twitchy little b'hatch to drive. Its also been eclipsed by the 430, so you're always driving 'behind' the times if you like. If I'm honest, I think its one of the ugliest fezzas out there and I'd probably prefer a 355
if I couldn't stretch to a 430 (with ceramic stoppers, natch)
I love the DB9, it just looks so special and there aren't many of them about (as opposed to the V8 Vantage) You culd always buy a vanquish for comparably little money to make sure someone else has taken the depreciation hit for you (that's make a change for you paul!
)
If I were you, It'd be an R8 please. Black, carbon sideblades. Just wait a wee while 'till the R10 is out

before the pedants get me, I know it was a 550 back then...
I've also heard that the 360 F1 switchgear is the easiest way in the world to have people point and laugh at you in a queue of traffic... revs, ker-clunk, stall
Thinking about it, buy a 993 Gt2 and be done with it! If you can't find a RHD one, what about a 993 Turbo?
Old. Skool.

I think the 360 is one of the most elegant modern F cars, but this debate is so subject its not worth pursuing. The 430 is superior in terms of technology and I have nothing against them but I just prefer the 360. I have been asked more than on a few occasions by Greypaul to swap over to the 430.....
Its not twitchy as people say. It really depends how you drive the car and the suspension set up but my car handles very nicely. The F1 box should not cause you problems if set up properly either. If you don't track the car, the real term road performance you get out of 360 and 430 is very similar. Have test drives in both to see what I mean.
DB9 is a nice car but I prefer the V8. I think Astons should improve the reliability though. As for different images associated with various cars, I don't get it. Buy what you like, not what people may think of the car.

Ian Callum is given the credit for the basic design of the DB9.....after his head-turning DB7
Ian and his brother Moray (Design Dir. Mazda) went to Morrison's Academy in the seventies.......but their achievements fell short of some other pupils from that era
