New toy
Re: New car.....Page 18!!
Nice one Mike! I loved my 172 - despite all it's breakdowns, I have very fond memories of a fun car. And despite my dislike of flakey french cars (well the impression my 172 left me with),.. I have always loved the trophy, and been tempted from time to time to go after one. Look forward to seeing it!

Re: New car.....Page 18!!
I went to buy a Trophy from a local private seller... serious buyer I was. Was advertised as FSH.
Guy wouldn't let me drive it... he drove the whole test drive (which lasted just 10mins). I could hear creaking from the front whilst sat in passenger seat, so thought maybe the dampers starting to complain. He then proceeded to show me the FSH... which was 1 service ... "the old book has been lost".
I had to walk unfortunately as the guy would not budge even a single £1 from his asking price.
Would have loved to have owned one though... nice work.

Re: New car.....Page 18!!
Don't suppose that was the Trophy with the number T20PHY in west lothian? I have seen it around a few times. Guy seems to rate it pretty highly.
"Now that's how you supposed to drive! From now on, that's how you drive!"
Re: New car.....Page 18!!
Didn't have a private plate the one I saw... but it may be sporting one now. Seller was in Fauldhouse.

Re: New car.....Page 18!!
It was on a standard 55 plate when i bought it from a girl in Glasgow.
Dom, i have considered a 172/182 Cup in the past but i could never see past the reliability of a Honda lump hence why i have had 3 Type-R's now. I was looking for a Premier Type-R when i spotted the Trophy by chance!
Loving it so far, little bit more poke than the Civic IMO, plus the power comes in 1000rpm earlier which is nice.
Not really had a chance to have a proper play yet as 1 of the front shocks is leaking! Hopefully my new Sachs Dampers along with new top mounts, wishbones, track rod ends, ARB bushes and front camber bolts should be here soon
It came with Eibach springs which from what i have read should be fine as they are the same spring rate....
To be 3 wheeling on a track near you soon

Re: New car.....Page 18!!
Trophy sold......S2000 bought

Picked up Ross's S2000 the other day for this weeks toy.......yes, yes i know i am going in circles
Car is fully Poly bushed, on a fresh set of Yokohams AD08's (was very impressed with them on my Trophy, a good compromise IMO for road/track use) and has been set up by Willie at CLCM so will be intersting to see how it handles compared to my last one. I did try and get my old settings from John at Pro-Grip but unfortunately he no longer has them.
Also has a lightened flywheel and a K&N induction kit which sounds "EPIC" at 9000rpm
Not sure if the flywheel makes much difference but it definetly pulls well.
Day 1 started of looking for a knocking and grinding noise from the rear
(Has Mckean been near this car!)

Considering the car was MOTed the morning before i was a little shocked TBH, but no harm done.
With a bolt check done i decided to strip down the calipers to remove the red paint and to free of the carriers, all the calipers were new within the last year but the carriers had not been touched hence the rear pad.
Rear...

Fronts...

Also fitted a set of genuine Honda front discs i had from my last S2000 to replace the EBC Grooved ones as i cracked my last set on the first day of Frolics! May even paint the cailpers in the summer
Ordered a full service kit today from Honda consisting of oil and pollen filter, plugs, gearbox and diff oil and a set of wipers plus ordered oil from OPIE oils
Plans, erm to drift it

Loving your work, you've almost had as many cars as Gareth!!

Re: S2000.....Page 19!
Good car - did a couple of laps as pax with Ross at Oulton in it
If you want to drift it you will need to reset rear toe to standard settings. Ross has a little more rear toe on it to make it more conservative - before he had that done the car was pretty lethal, like so many S2000 are, but presumably you want lethal handling as your a drifter
The wishbone bolt is scary! I would send a photo to the MOT tester just so they don't make that mistake again :-0 I assume you replaced that bolt as it will inevitably break now that it's been run loose like that?
Cheers,
Robin

Re: S2000.....Page 19!
The settings are standard Robin...

Not going to go changing the settings just for the sake of it, but it does feel lively enough tbh, well in the wet anyway. Will be booking on to SIDC at the end of the month so will go from there.
Yeah rear bolt was a bit of a shocker! Never crossed my mind to replace it, just tightened it up....think i should then?
My mate is a MOT tester and he was shocked too, plus the rear pad. They did manage to fail it on headlight adjustment however
Ross, if you wish to forward on the pic please do so...i won't be using them again between the above and the state of the calipers
Ps, Sanjoy, Ross says you owe me a set of rear pads as they were fine when he left the car with you

Re: S2000.....Page 19!
Could you have reasonably seen the bolt with the wheel on? Bearing in mind it'll most likely be jacked up when that area is inspected.
Re: S2000.....Page 19!
From under the car, yes.
