Sorry are you guys saying that one of the reasons for voting No is because you think English people are smarter than Scottish people?

Aw shucks, you're lovely to me!

:D :D :D :D :D
One of the under lying themes is that we the scots are morally superior to the english as we always vote for left wing parties

While the simple fact is in many areas in the central belt they would elect a dog turd if it had a labour badge on

As to wether a dog turd would be an improvement over most of our elected officials is an entirely new debate.

Don't forget Belgium a country with a horrendously complicated electoral system. So complicated for 18 months they had no working government during the euro crisis. For those 18 months they had one of the fastest growing economies in the euro area

What chance does Scotland's new lender of last resort have of holding rates to 0.5% when the country will have no credit rating?

You don't need a lender of last resort. Check your facts Dom. Look at other countries using the US $
There are other ways!

Who will set the rate then? (Not a trick Q - genuinely interested in a fact).

And it's Campbell here...not Dom ;-)

Correct

We do not need a lender of last resort

However

We want one

As without it the financial sector will piss off down south

We don't need a financial sector or the 100,000 jobs they bring into the central belt

Why would another country!s central bank set an independent nation's interest rate where they have no currency union?

How?

We do not need 100,000 jobs in the central belt as that is roughly how many people are employed in the financial services sector

We can survive without them

We do however WANT them

crucial difference

if you are independence at any cost then it is a worthwhile risk that 100,000 people will end up jobless

i would like independence just i don't think the risks are worth it

As lets face it

Scotland is a brilliant place to live

Loads of jobs and loads of space

I don't think we can survive with losing 100k+ jobs, that's just nuts, we do need them.

I do however think that we can do well as an independent nation, not just 'survive'.

Politics would be a more intimate set up given that the population and size of the place is so small.
The biggest risk is in getting the right people in place and ensuring that they represent us well.
Most important of all is getting the negotiations with Westminster right in the first place.
Yes Scotland is a great place to live, there's nothing to say it can't continue that way under either system but independence from Westminster could let us ensure it does. Under the present system we have very little financial control.
