I am in full support of proposals for Aberdeen anti-begging bylaw.

Aye Ross, she's a good lass ... but we've a lot of work to do yet.

Steph had her out a walk today and she lunged, barking, at a bloke who approached them.

We can't go near other dogs so walks need to be thought out and our route has to be fluid in case we see other dogs in the distance.

She's shedding her kennel coat now and we think we can see some more scars round her back end - so something bad has happened to her.

On the odd occasion I choose to scold her, she cowers as if she's expecting a pasting.

She's also developing a hatred of the postie, paper boy and, indeed, anybody who dares to come to the door.

So, we've got a way to go before she's completely happy and relaxed. We'll get there though.

I don't think I'll ever be able to completely trust her. That's the case with all dogs but I think I'll have to be that bit more vigilant with ther.

She just wants to please though, she's just so happy when it's just the three of us. See here ...

https://youtu.be/qA8S8WQMZyM?t=1m31s

We'll get there though - it'll just take time.

I'm having a pretty crap time at work just now (lay offs) but when I get in the car to go home, I'm smiling thinking about the welcome waiting for me.

Cheers,

Eric :)

Cracking vid haha

My Harvey is now nearly 10, and after a long hard day offshore I phone home to find he's been in a big scrap with another dog and is poorly...

He's also taken to using walls or the mantelpiece as a head rest :damnfunny

Mrs Bee took him to vet this morning - bad ear infection, and severe arthritis in his hind legs, a legacy of his cruciate ligament replacements a few years back.

Nae wonder he was grumpy!!!

Sorry to hear your story, can't understand people who mistreat dogs!!?

Maybe a specialist may be able to help you out. Our dog walker is also a behavioural specialist and teaches through positive methods. I can ask her if she knows of anyone up in the Aberdeen area who may be able to help out if you want?

Also don't know how well know this is in Aberdeen but lot of owners in Edinburgh put a yellow ribbon around their leads to let other owners know that their dog is nervous or liable to snap/bark at other dogs. Good idea as its a 2 way process and I know to put Star on his lead if approaching another dog, obviously I don't want him hurt but its my responsibility if I know another dog is nervous.

I got Angus and Maisy a couple of collars from here. She made them to order as the ones she has online weren't big enough for our rottie.

Really well made and all for £10. She does yellow "give me space" collars if you want.

I will post pics of the ones I got tomorrow.

We really don't have much idea about her past prior to the people who had her immediately before us. The SSPCA thought she'd likely have been worked though ("lamping" or the like).

You shouldn't feel sorry for any of us though. We've got this superb dog who has come to live with us and she's ended up in a home with two people who will see her right and have the patience and energy to help her work through her problems. We've all been very lucky finding each other.

We're getting some help from our vet on the behaviour side but we're still just letting her settle in right now. If we're not making much progress by the summer then we'll likely try an alternative. I already have a recommendation but if your dog walker has another one, I'd welcome it.

Thanks, yeah, I am aware of "Yellow Dog UK" and I bought; lead, lead cover, dog tabard, human backpack, ribbons and flyers. :)

Cheers,

Eric :)
